Carrots being orange by default is thanks to the Dutch. Fucking bastards.

Leave it to the Dutch to standardise your food until everything is mediocre
Those God damn dastardly Dutch
Carrots used to be purple originally.
Carrots (and corn) have come in a variety of colors since time immemorial.
I just had purple carrots yesterday. Is there some controversy about them I don't know about?
You never thought having the same standardized food throughout the year everywhere on the continent is actually weirder?
Yes please I want my food looking like its grown in fae soil. My wife makes these purple potatoes that are magical.
... really? I'm bad at getting sarcasm.
Purple potatoes are very real.

They're extra cool to make mashed potatoes, fries, or chips with.
More antioxidants and slower increase in blood sugar than ordinary potatoes.
I grow carrots of multiple colors all year round. They honestly all taste the same.
Yeah, my mom grows carrots in a variety of colours, not just the new orange one that's become so common. Also grows blue potatoes, purple beans and whatnot, because she has more fun with more colourful food.
Dark heirloom tomatoes are pretty neat too.
Thank you for reminding me that I should try the purple carrots stashed away in my fridge.
Sure. I'll also accept purple and red sweet potatoes.
Yeah, I already buy the tri-colored carrots, and the purple are my favs.
Why not?
Same price or cheaper? Then sure. Variety is good.
Thereβs a purple carrot in my fridge right nowβ¦
I have and they are delicious
Purple is the old carrot. Orange is newer.

Imagine actually shopping for carrots π€£

Which way? For me cooked carrots are horrific just like mushrooms. Good raws are super nice and crunchy.
I can imagine boiling carrots in a stew or in the beans. Or thoroughly steamed. Or roasted with potatoes
Yeah, I like carrots in my soup.
I have grown orange, yellow, and purple carrots. They are all yummy.
...and they each taste different, too!..fantastic variety...
Yeah, my daughter loves purple color. So making mashed potatoes and adding in purple carrots would be kinda nice.
You could use purple potatoes. Or Aussie sweet potatoes, which are orange.
Fuck yeah. Multicoloured food is amazing
I already did. The place I buy vegetables had purple carrots for a while, which cost more than orange carrots. I still bought them.
How were they?
Purple.
Nice. They taste like orange carrots, but with a peppery kick.
Yes, I've eaten them many times.
Whatβs up, doc?
What is down, doctor? ****
- BugsBunny after purple carrots
I dunno, I tried purple potatoes once and they were pretty awful.
I mean, green ketchup tastes exactly the same as red one, so I'm used to colour being somewhat meaningless. Same with clear cola.
I've had them. Well. We bought some and the very next day they were already limp and wet and grody. So maybe next batch will be better?
Why not? Always try new things. It's not like the grocer will recommend poisons anyway.
Bless your heart.
Purple carrots have a better taste, in my opinion. Not perfectly interchangeable with the standard orange ones, so having the option for both would be nice
Purple carrot tastes great, has hints of parsley and lovage and also paints everything purple.
I used it mostly for chicken soup and it was great, also works good in other dishes.
Yuck, natural carrots? That's gross!
/s of course
Are there any unsolved murders circling this grocer?
Oh, I remember that question from a questionnaire I answered not too long ago. Because of the lack of choices (these kinds of questionnaires are often too narrow when it comes down to the amount of choices one can make), and because I can see the situation being less about a literal, eatable carrot and more about "receptivity to unexpected, novel things", I picked the "I'll try the purple ones" option back when I answered it.
