When I get into fights the mods get involved and they freak out

[–] makefile@programming.dev -1 points 1 day ago

Mostly a reddit scenario

While I agree that we could all stand to take things a little less seriously, I also think that it's important to realize that humor is an important tool for normalizing ideas and opinions so sometimes it warrants scrutiny.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Social experiment.

[–] Nima@leminal.space 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

or just tell the person the joke isn't funny and move on. not everything needs to be under a microscope.

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Something can be incorrect or harmful and funny.

Moreover if you reread my comment I think we very much agree.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

and all of that is highly subjective and often argued from a complete ignorance of context and knowledge of the subject matter.

You know who tells me my hobbies and horrible and awful and evil and stupid? People who don't do them and who feel threatened by them, and think therefore they should not exist. And sometimes they go so far as to set traps with the intent to maim and harm others, because they think it's justified because their feelings and views that nobody should ever do this thing they don't like that is so disruptive and uncivilized.

It's super fun being lectured by some angry ignorant nitwit how awful and bad and harmful you are, when what you are doing is objectively good for you, your community, and the people around you. Even better when the write a editorial in the news paper how you are DESTROYING SOCIETY by riding your bicycle. And if you were DECENT HUMAN BEING you'd just get in a car and drive like EVERYONE ELSE.

This is incredibly aggressive and has no connection to what I originally said.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

yeah, it does feel aggressive when someone calls you out on your BS about how you are the sole arbiter of what is worthy and good for everyone else. it's almost like that's an arrogant and egotistical position.

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

You've tried to pin a bunch of positions I don't actually hold on me, I never said that police other people I said to approach ideas and jokes with skepticism.

What you hit me back with is both hyperbolic and not what I've actually said. I'm sorry for what happened to you but I don't see how what I've said has any connection to it.

[–] far_university1990@reddthat.com 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, "gif" correct, everyone else say "gif" fucking wrong.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

While I enjoy a good online slap fight, some people seem to get paid for it.

[–] StumblingWasabi@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well that's just being a contrarian, it's not an actual debait or argument.

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

No it isn’t

[–] Technus@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

My first interaction with a self-proclaimed Buddhist was in an Omegle chat where he opened with something like "the US staged 9/11", I guess in an attempt to rage-bait

[–] makefile@programming.dev 7 points 2 days ago (3 children)
[–] Technus@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just seems hypocritical for a self-proclaimed Buddhist to open a chat and immediately try to throw hands

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

They call that Fight Buddism.

It's like Hot Yoga.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think we just allowed it to happen like we did with Pearl Harbor.

Colluded it to happen

[–] stepan@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

there's this weird phenomenon at least here in europe of weird fascist assholes converting to budhism

[–] makefile@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

Buddhists aren't all peaceful. Any religion can be used to form power. Regardless of how you feel with Tibet, it was ran by brutal dictators using Buddhism to justify slavery and strict punishment of the masses.

Is it true that your mom can't cook? Everybody says so.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago
[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

Oi, that's not fucking Buddhist, you git

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Jokes work because of the value systems of the culture that produces them. Take jokes seriously and you'll learn what that culture values and what it doesn't. The intent of the joke is separate from why it works and what that means about our society.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I like the stand ups that make the audience look like ignorant assholes.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

There's also the phenomenon where if you say anything remotely negative online about a thing, people think you're the most enraged person ever, even if you're just mildly annoyed. A lot of assumptions are made on the Internet, that's for sure.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

I wish we could actually do so. The modern internet is shit. You cant even copy paste the navy seals copypasta without getting banned for promoting violence. Boring!
