Sometimes they also have to mouth justifications, written by their staff, but they have to memorize them, or else engage their question-avoidance skillsets.

Also ironic how the copyright laws the companies have fought so hard to be emforced against consumers suddenly don't count, when they feed millions of stolen books, artworks, movies and songs into their models

They also need for regulation on open models so nobody can self host cheaply.

My school district recently hired a new superintendent. During his introductory speech he said the usual school administrator fluffy bullshit but then mentioned AI and talked about how it's here to stay and we're just going to have to learn to live with it. It's funny how bullying is also obviously here to stay but nobody says we're just going to have to learn to live with it.
Legislation on AI will serve to ensure that these mega tech corps will be the only AI game in town. The only thing they will "regulate" is the open source public models.
Well now they asking for regulation against Chinese models saying otherwise it's AI communism.
Both of those statements help stabilize an unstable product that has no business existing in the first place; implore the government to give you a pass, while quashing the population by exploiting their sense of powerlessness in the world.
Never assume powerful people/corporations are saying things because they're the truth; instead you should always think about how those words benefit them - they wouldn't be saying them otherwise. Lying means nothing to them - all words are just tools to be used to further their goals.
Regulation frequently favor large corporations by increasing cost of entry. They will definitely want to ban or tax local open source models. So that they can collect rent forever.
What is worse is that I haven't really read a list of demands for regulation from the AI haters.
How about this one: "Inference may not be offered for less than a ten percent markup."
Would kill most large models, while the ones that can run on consumer grade hardware would not.
That is an interesting idea. It would be neigh impossible because there is already so much accounting tech to hide or distort profit though.
You believe it's important to not subvention AI for a while? It is a fundamental issue because if you can undercut labor costs for a while and get people fired you make businesses dependent on the AI that replaced that labor and then can raise costs again. Obviously that doesn't even really work and businesses are shooting themselves in the foot right now, but it doesn't stop them from trying.
In China a court just ruled that firms can't lay off workers based on AI. A law like that would severely slow down the adoption rate and expansion of AI.
