So from what I can tell, Reddit picks up on stuff like IP, but they also look at screen size and your browser too.

It's easy enough to botch the latter two, but it's tough getting a new IP. The issue is that when I use any free VPNs, they presumably have a crap ton of traffic going through them already, and I think Reddit has probably blacklisted most of them.

Has anyone on here had success with a paid, higher quality VPN? I'm not power user or anything, so honestly if just getting like a free trial for Nord or Surfshark or something would allow me to make a couple posts every now and then, that would be spectacular.

reddit is immune to most VPN, you would have to use a mobile proxy that is rotatable, but you have to pay for these, and use anti-detect browser, and a new device. this is not advisable, as the people using these methods are using it to earn a income, so they can afford also because they have to have hundreds if not more accounts at once.

they also look at location, time zone, your components, browser version, they look for other things in the setup above, if you arnt doing it correctly.

Why is this getting downvoted? Literally like half of the posts on here are about dodging permabans

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think because you said NordVPN is high quality

[–] BingoBongo1942@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean I'm no VPN expert, I just know that it costs money so I assumed it was better than free ones

VPN ISnt useful for most social media, you would have to use proxies, which i learened from another forum you have to use a specific type, and a setup of other things like new device, a anti-detect browsers. doesnt seem worth it. the other way would be using a new device and new IP(like from a new location that isnt flagged), and you can only use it on that new location. reddit is too aware of VPN for it to be useful. the other methods arnt fullproof either, because reddit keeps changing thier moderaiton tools to catch evaders even better.

I'm just speculating, but I think most people here have put Reddit behind them. I doubt they're interested in helping people stay shackled to that garage place...

He calls Nord of all things high quality which by it self deserves a downvote. YouTube bait VPNs have become a major fucking problem.

Having successfully done this here's how it works. I used a VPN that was part of my antivirus subscription. It came with it without additional charge. This antivirus sub also comes with their own browser which I had never used before. If you are using a browser that you had previously used for reddit - make sure you have deleted all reddit cookies, make sure you have deleted any reddit browser extensions. And make sure you have deleted all reddit passwords that may be saved by that browser. Use an email for confirmation that you have never used before for reddit. This works, but if you ever try to access reddit via your phone or without using the VPN you will be banned for ban evasion.

they also trust google emails more.

So what about a new phone?

try TorBrowser, it might defeat the fingerprinting. as for the VPN, try Azire. they're cheap and reliable

[–] BingoBongo1942@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I've tried Tor and unfortunately I've found that out of all the methods, it unfortunately gets me banned instantaneously the most frequently. I'll definitely have to try Azire though, it has a free trial too

I doubt it, Nord VPN IP ranges are very well known.

Higher quality VPN won't really help, basically any VPN service is easy for reddit to detect.

[–] shaquilleoatmeal@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

They will ban you if they detect you’re on a VPN, so no.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Might work if you spring for the custom feature where you get your own unique IP. But Redfin will recognize VPN IPs

[–] cloudless@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Doesn’t the ban based on account activities instead or IP addresses?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago

both, but they also look for other things, like your browser fingerprinting, your device components, browser versions, or whatever method to hide your IP.

[–] shaquilleoatmeal@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

They IP ban you. My permaban was for signing in on public Wi-Fi, which made it think I was evading someone else’s ban.

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

Yes, but they also use IP addresses to try to stop banned users from opening new accounts.
