Overview:

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

I'd be interested if they sold for BYD prices. $10k, $15k.

But im not interested in any new car at 2025 America New Car prices.

Make a cheap economy shitbox and I'll buy it. Wind up windows. No screens. No unnecessary bloat. 4 wheels and something to make it move.

The poll shows that the number of Americans who are open to buying an electric vehicle has dropped to 51 percent in early 2025, down from 59 percent in 2023.

This is a complex question to ask. Q1 sales are down more than expected, even before the tariffs were announced. People just aren't spending their money, because they're either scared, poor, or both.

Now that ridiculous tariffs are in place, cars are going to get even more expensive across the board, so if somebody asked me right now if I was thinking about buying a new car soon, I'd say no. It's not that I never will, but I'm going to hold onto my money and drive my clunker until it's safer to upgrade. I would suspect that at least some of those polled are in that same boat.

And as the article alludes, politics has likely played a roll in all of this. 18-34yos and Democrats and Independents dropped the most in interest. There's other EVs besides Teslas, but they might not be accessible to everyone depending upon cost or locale.

It's not as simple as "Americans are losing interest," and the market is still growing, just might be a little slower than before.

I understand the need for electric vehicles but what I really want is reliable public transportation. And not just within cities, I'd want it between cities. Like, imagine if you could take a train from Columbus to Seattle? And not some gimmicky train like what Musk is always talking about. Just a regular train that you could take instead of needing to fly or drive. And within cities imagine if you could just take the train everywhere and only need a car if you have to go to the country side.

Maybe I'm just a train nerd, but every time I see trains and other public transportation in Europe and Asia I get incredibly jealous. I'm down for electric vehicles, don't get me wrong, but the infrastructure still isn't there for most places. And the price for new cars and EVs is ridiculously high for what they are. Like, more than I make in a year in some cases.
