Epic Rap Battles of History isn’t exactly dead but they don’t post content nearly as much has they used to. And there are some bona-fide classics on there worth watching again and again.

Every Frame a Painting

That channel isn't dead? He hasn't uploaded a video this year, but he uploaded a number of videos in the 2 years before, after the 7 year gap.

[–] la508@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 weeks ago

New video is about to drop real soon. 4.5 hour version is already on patron. Final version will probably be even a bit longer

[–] chtk@feddit.nl 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not a dead channel though. 4 hour videos just take a lot of time to produce. The same goes for ContraPoints, Münecat, and Noah Caldwell-Gervais

[–] la508@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I don't know who those other people are, but I was just joking about the fact it's years between videos.

[–] toomanypancakes@crazypeople.online 20 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Jenna Marbles, it's been like 6 years since she stopped. Her videos are lots of fun though.

Oh, my wife was a fan of hers. What happened to her channel??

[–] DrWorm@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She got called out for doing blackface around summer of 2020 after the death of George Floyd and she put an apology video out saying she's going to take accountability by going on an indefinite hiatus. She's followed through with that, the apology seemed sincere.

Hello Internet

Technically a podcast, but I listened to the YouTube version for whatever reason and occasionally go back for my favorite episodes.

Technoblade never dies! Tom Scott came back, so I was right staying.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 14 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

GTOger has been really quiet lately, probably since his company moved to a different place that isn't next to the lot patrolled by the tow trucks.

yovo68 (The 11 foot 8 bridge) has also reduced in uploads since they raised the bridge by 8 inches.

Bill Wurtz only uploads every once in a blue moon.

And I've only just noticed that Vi Hart deleted her channel. That's a kick in the whimsy, for sure.

[–] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Bill Wurtz channel isn't dead. He just spends a lot of time on his videos

There are many channels I stay subscribed even if there is a gap in content from a month to years.

Looking at my PipePipe subs - Bob Music, Digital Engine, EugeneTeo, Fuzo Tech, Humble Road, Husk IRL, Laura Malvoyante, Ozzy Man Reviews, Potholer54, Side of Burritos, The Imaginary Axis, The Invisible Internet I2P, Veronica Explains are all low on new content.

Doesn't cost me anything to stay subbed.

Mitten Squad. Guy popularized challenge runs with his fallout and elder scrolls playthroughs, and his deadpan delivery gets me every time. Unfortunately passed away after a long battle with alcoholism. I miss that dude. I don't think he realized how much light he brought the world.

If anyone is curious

Jenny Nicholson

CommunityChannel

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 weeks ago (9 children)

Jenny is still pretty active. If you've got $1/month for her patreon she has a huge library of monthly videos which are decent.

Is Jenny Nicholson's channel dead? She just...posts like one 4 hour video a year.

Is lindsay ellis still putting new content on yt?

[–] alianne@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not on YouTube that I've noticed, but she still posts on Nebula.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

Well, then she's my vote. Lots of great videos, esp The Whole Plate.

Found out he died, committed suicide. Sad.

[–] cosmos8188@leminal.space 6 points 2 weeks ago

Looking at his channel, he really has some high quality content. Its sad that it had to end in that way.

[–] vrek@programming.dev 7 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I recently found out Katherineofsky has died but her factorio malls and videos influenced the community so much...

Baremetalhw

He used to custom paint and plate hotwheels and then one day 5 years ago he uploaded his last video. Wouldn't be surprised if he passed from covid or something like that

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Sethbling comes to mind

[–] nautilus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago

I really miss Jack Stauber.

[–] Guitar@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I miss old Rooster Teeth. I rarely go back to it, but I go on a little watch spree every few years.

I'd also include Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games. Incredible channel that was run by the man himself. I've learned so much about the developer side of things from his channel. Sadly he ended it a few years ago because he felt like he was able to talk about pretty much everything he wanted to touch on. And he had to get working on Kirby Air Riders.

A couple other small ones would be:

Scykoh- Made a series called Glitchfest where he would break down and show off significant bugs/glitches in games. Similar to A+Start.

Jasper- A guy who broke down how Nintendo created certain elements of their games. Very informative as well, but he only made a handful of videos and then just randomly stopped a few years ago.

Sp0ntanius- Musician who made creatively edited Zelda music covers. He actually still uploads the occasional video. But he often doesn't upload for several years at a time.

For years I was subscribed to this one guy who made a couple of videos talking about his struggles with panic attacks and agoraphobia. I found his channel at exactly the right time when I was struggling with the same problems. It was really comforting to hear someone talk about things that were so familiar to me when I felt like I had a unique problem. He seemed like a really cool and interesting guy that I could relate to in a lot of ways, not only his mental health issues. He liked music, movies, and video games.

His videos were uploaded mostly between 2007 and 2009. I think his very last video was uploaded in like 2010. They were like a time capsule to the mid 2000s. And he only had about 15 - 20 videos, most of which were pretty short. He was in his late 20s or something, so he'd be in his 40s or so by now.

I still think about that dude every now and then, I hope he's doing alright. His couple of videos had an impact on me during a difficult time in my life. I remained subscribed for about 10 years even though I knew he wouldn't upload again. Mostly out of respect and for the nostalgia.
