America stands alone. They know what they did.

[–] volore@scribe.disroot.org 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The fuck we do, you seen how shit our public schools are? The events I was never taught about American history, but should've been, could constitute its own college course. And they're only getting worse!

As a wise man once said, "Public schools don't produce people, they manufacture a public by schooling the people into the desired form."

Be prepared to receive the same help they sent Iraq, Vietnam, and South America.

Can I still get that crunchwrap, or what? Oh, and extra fire sau— actually, you can keep it.

Taco Bell's about as white as white gets. It's loose White Castle in a nacho tray sombrero.

Don't get me wrong, there's a slew of contenders for that title: Cracker Barrel and the like, for the bumpkins; TGIF, Bennigan's, Olive Garden, et al, for the bridge & tunnel herd; and there's the gated resorts & sundry sociopathic foodie tourism for the elites and wannabes.

But Taco Bell? That's for all of 'em.

The burger king, from the great plains, saw the beacon, and said, fast food will answer!

That's the last sign you get from Burger Lord, you puny pineapple-pizza loving infidels! Stop your acid ways or be burned in celestial oven forever!!! Tomato is the most acidic thing that might be put on pizza!!!

I hate to be that guy but pineapple on pizza was invented by a Greek guy in Canada

[–] rudyharrelson@lemmy.radio 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I dislike the term "invented" in contexts like this. Surely it's more accurate to say some Canadian guy popularized pineapple on pizza. I just really doubt that no one on earth ever put pineapple on a pizza before 1962.

Even the Wikipedia article goes on to say

In 1957, a "Hawaiian Pizza" containing pineapple, papaya, and chopped green pepper, but not ham or bacon, appeared in Portland, Oregon.[12][13]

Damn. PDX keepin' it weird since before the slogan.

I don't get why everyone is so obsessed with pineapple on pizza. I like it, not enough to order it but still.

The italians look down on us for putting garlic in the sauce by the way, they are disgusted and chagrined at it.

The thing is, garlic in processed food and pizza joints is added to disguise low quality ingredients, same reason they load the holy trinity of fat salt and sugar into everything. So the I-tie's are not wrong. They know food you have to give them that.

I think you shouldn't discount the immense amount of cultural pride that many people put in their region's cuisine -- not even just national pride, even, as many groups will look down on each other despite being from the same country and eating the same foods just because they see the other as preparing it "the wrong way".

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sure, but this isn't just national pride, they are right. Garlic and oinion powder are added to all sorts of products they didn't used to be in, because they cheaped out on the other ingredients. Read all your labels, you will see what I'm talking about. It was not this way until relatively recently.

Perfect excuse to learn to cook, I say! Skip the Winnebago, though.

Fun fact! Tomatoes are a berry. Yo ass has been enjoying fruit as an essential ingredient of pizza for your whole life! Fuck yeah, Science!

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yes, berry. Not a fruit, though.

Hunh. Fair point!

Strawberries go in what nation's spaghetti dish?
