Yesterday, I had to call the customer service at my credit union because I needed a check, and the representative who ”helped’ me maintained a very obvious undercurrent of derision, contempt, and sarcasm the entire time, thinly masked by an overly bright facade of friendliness. She clearly took an immediate offense at the fact that I spoke about needing a check as the ridiculous thing that it is. Because it SO is? Why do I have to go through the torture of calling the representative at the bank in order to get a check in the year 2025?
Today I had to call the Internet provider and the electric company to get those turned on. The rep at the Internet company and I had a 45 minute conversation on everything from the state of the economy, to U.S. politics, to military history TV shows, to predatory mega corporations, to our opinions of Ryan Reynolds’s acting abilities vs. his business acumen. And we were both on the same page about Everything. The representative at the electric company was friendly, helpful, speedy, and efficient, and my stuff will be turned on on Monday. So I don’t know it’s entirely on me that the lady at the bank reacted the way she did. End rant.
