We discovered this and look, they just left it sitting out there, obviously abandoned

"We paid someone in the area at the time, so it's totally a fair trade."

Obligatory joke:

Why are the Pyramids in Egypt?
Because they are too big to fit in the British Museum

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Fun fact: people were convinced the pyramids were silos, and the Egyptians filled them from the top.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

Look up "pyramid power". These crazy people thought the pyramid shape preserved stuff with a special "pyramid energy".

Because pyramids preserved mummies .. so ... science.

[–] diarcesia@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

The Pyramids are too big to come to Britain, so Britain came to Egypt.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 4 points 2 weeks ago

Well, there's a hostage exchange, they are not letting it go without a guarantee.

The Germans actually did something like this in the late 19th century lol,

Liar! We would never do something like...

Uh, never mind.

O germany,

the part that is shown in the Pergamon Museum today is the smaller, frontal part. The larger, back part was considered too large to fit into the constraints of the structure of the museum; it is in storage.

[–] RamblingPanda@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To be fair, it is absolutely stunning. It's not OK to steal and smuggle, but I do kind of understand the urge to do so. If you're ever in Berlin and are interested in history/archeology, check it out.

First time i heard about the Pergamon museum was when i was in Berlin and it already seemed impressive on the pictures onlinre, so despite their dubious ownership I might check it out next time.

Idk whether to upvote you for making a good point or downvote you for using alternating case

No it’s “noone” very different concept.

[–] thenextguy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Peter Noone, actually. From Herman’s hermits. He never says anything.

[–] ChillCapybara@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Unlike his cousin, Gabs Alot.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago
