Wait… you guys sort your socks?!

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I do, but most of mine are just black crew socks that just go in a pile together.

...BROTHER?!

[–] TheFriendlyDickhead@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago

Those two are vaguely similar: another pair successfully identified

I do, not by colour but by "type" I guess. Mostly so I don't get one long and one short sock, or one wool and one bamboo or whatever. Cause my autistic ass can't handle having two different feels lol.

Nowadays I just try to bulk buy the same socks, so soon this hopefully won't be a problem anymore.

The two on the right just look faded and worn. Are you saying all three are new?

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

No, but upon closer inspection the right one is probably a more faded version of the left one.

The middle is certainly different.

But they seem to do this in other colors, where they have two slightly different versions.

Yeah. I get min from Costco and I have a set that all the colors are slightly off the entire rest of my sets I've bought over time. Iirc they were manufactured in a different country

I find the variation to be pretty common with all the branded socks so I just get the ones with bold colors that will be easy to sort. Even when I go all white or black I toss the old ones when I get a new package because there is nothing worse than being slightly different styles or one new and the other worn in.

Mismatched feel is even worse than mismatched colors!

Puma picks manufacturers at random, the manufacturers pick colors and shades according to a precise and rational system

I have pretty much only black socks to make pairing easy, and if I detect loose strings or it getting thin that sock is gone. Socks are like a dollar and I'm not about to ruin my day with a holey sock.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

If they were different when new then it likely has to do with what threads were available at the time of production.

Mix and match...live a little!

I've always wondered if they do this to encourage people to buy lots of socks at once and change over the whole wardrobe. Like the companies are just trying to fleece the whales of sock buying or something.

Sounds maybe unlikely idk. It just drives me insane that no company keeps the same design for more than like a year and I have no explanation why they do it.

So y'all don't just wing all your socks into an old reusable grocery bag under your bed?
