There are no font files – I wrote my own typesetting system, which supports combining multiple text styles and generates new glyph variants on the fly.

I have to be honest; at the time it looked better than competitors. And for a long time it still did (and if you take unix [w/ ricing] out of the equation, still does).
Experience does have its purpose. Anyway, this looks really pretty.
