This is one of those really rare moments where you get to say “you’re right, Alex Jones.”
Every day the gymnastics needed for a Trump supporter gets more and more convoluted. First, he was speaking up in favor of H1B workers (so much for support of American workers), then his "no new wars" turned into broad support of Israel and military actions taken, now his "drain the swamp" has turned into "it's not permitted to even talk about Epstein".
More proof that he is a shameless huckster with no honor in him at all. Sadly, much of his base is quite used to making excuses on his behalf and I'd imagine they can keep this up for quite a while. What a scumbag. I won't be upset when he leaves the White House, whether that's due to health problems, impeachment or running out the clock.

The one thing that is in the back of my mind is what is Trump going to do next in order to attempt to cover up this Epstein list situation? Will he declare war on a foreign country? Will he declare war on the people of the United States who stand against him?
When the last republican president had an approval rating as shitty as trump's, he lucked into the worst terrorist attack in US history.
It will absolutely be against US citizens because MAGA cares far more about not having foreign wars, than having gestapo disappear US citizens.

Man, it would be incredible if Epstein and Trump's inability to shut up about it is what brings this regime down.

He does need them, though he may not think so. Support isn't just for voting. His narcissism needs people to like him, and his entire personality can collapse without it (possibly to suicidal levels). They support him in more tangible ways, as well, such as counter protest actions.
Just in general, fascism needs to maintain the illusion of widespread, inevitable "populist" support. That's one reason why big public protests are important even if they don't have tangible results right away.
John Steward actually wrote a poem to conservatives about this situation, it goes like this:

This is interesting... In the past when Trump has tried to push back on his followers he's followed the TACO principle. Like when he wanted to take credit for the COVID vaccines but his audience was anti-vax he quickly softened his language to "take it... if you want it tho. Maybe it's poison who knows?"
He's never been a leader - he's just been an amalgamation of all of the racism and conspiracy theories his followers have. He says "yes" or "maybe" to everything. I think this is the first time he's really said "no" though?
