To give you some background, this bonus would only be gained if Unknown Worlds hit certain targets by the end of 2025. Most of it would have been paid to the three men, with 10% set aside for 40 other employees at the studio.
So the "team" would get the bonus they say? Both parties can fuck off in my opinion.
The article also states that the founders had endeavored to distribute more of their share to the other employees, and this was a sticking point in Krafton’s attempt to walk back the original deal:
But the trio declined, claiming the amount was not "anything close to what they deserved, and did not allow them to share the earnout with the full team."”
Given this I don’t think we can fairly prejudge the trio — if they’d received the bonus and then reneged on their promise or made it a negligible amount then it’d be fair to judge them harshly.
Frankly, the buyers truing to get them to take a smaller buyout before firing makes it clear they're doing what they can to avoid paying it. At the same time, the way the incentive was setup both parties were of course going to try to win here. No one who has 250m is going to part with it without a fight. And vice-versa.
Hindsight is 2020, but the reward structure should have never been setup based an arbitrary deadline but instead on a total level of success
OMG I can't keep up! Who am I supposed to hate here!?!?
Just look at what krafton has done to other games and think about whether you should trust a word out of their PR team. If they have evidence I'm willing to re asses until then distrusting krafton is the safe move.
