DHL Express, a division of Germany's Deutsche Post, said it would suspend global business-to-consumer shipments worth over $800 to individuals in the United States from April 21, as U.S. customs regulatory changes have lengthened clearance.

The notice on the company website was not dated, but its metadata showed it was compiled on Saturday.

DHL blamed the halt on new U.S. customs rules which require formal entry processing on all shipments worth over $800. The minimum had been $2,500 until a change on April 5.

I keep having flashbacks to scenes from the series "Years and Years". Anyone who has seen the first season at least knows what I'm talking about. The US in that world became more authoritarian and pulled away from the rest of the world, so it was more of a background and not heard much about. Until they did things. Given how the UK (where the show's setting was) was more progressive and open in many ways and yet still got very ugly, I can't even imagine what the unseen US was like.

I want to know how that fuck up has got where he has in life without a) self reflecting and realising that he’s a useless twat or b) everyone around him realising he’s a thick twat.

Obviously he’s got “friends” in places, but still.

he has no true friends.

everybody knows he's a fucking idiot, but he's a 'useful' idiot..

just as he uses others--others use him. and holy fuck is he getting used and abused right now.

Any German speakers out there: I have a request for a new portmanteau. “Schadenfreude” feels too generalized, and also doesn’t really capture the nuance of what I’m going for. It’s definitely rooted in that concept, but instead of watching from afar, you’re in the middle of the bad thing that’s happening, and you hate the thing, but at the same time you fully accept and agree that the consequences that are coming out of the thing are justified, and you want the consequences to spiral out of control so that the thing stops happening, or is combatted by everyone who was initially excited about it, etc.

Apologies for basically giving you an LLM prompt, but I’d rather ask humans than an LLM to be perfectly honest.
