I'm in my bed, that's the best place in the world

Welding shut the lids and doors on every missile silo, submarine, naval vessel and tank worldwide.

There is a small danish bakery at one of the most northern places of Germany. You can buy vegan Zimtschnecke there that is to die for and eat it basically around the corner at the harbor, watching the ships come and go while listening to the sound of the sea gulls... yeah, there.

Sounds good I'll join you

Asleep in bed

Anywhere but here. Behind a dumpster in the ally would be better than this, but there are tons of cameras in every ally. I just want to get into a car and drive in any direction until it runs out of gas. I'm literally going to die here, either from myself or someone else.

Back in bed, sleeping, and it's fine because I don't have to do anything today and nobody needs me for anything and nobody will interrupt me.

With my bestie

My favourite breakfast place in Belfast.

I'm just having my breakfast. Doing that on a sunny Swiss balcony overlooking a spectacular Alpine valley would suit me.

Oh that sounds goooooodd

What's it like? Never really heard of it

[–] july@leminal.space 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

From what I’ve read it has that young spirit energy type of city. There are a lot of animation studios in Montpellier. I’m looking towards that as I’m planning to move. I was thinking of Paris but I’m not sure if I can keep up with all the craziness 😂

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just FYI it's not young, but grew crazy maybe in the eighties (or seventies? IDK). They have a lots of startups (I left 2016 so take everything I say with that in mind) and tries to make videogames as Ubi has a studio there (I knew some overworked people from there, I made games in Paris befor moving to Montpellier) but the scene was worse than meh.

If you can get Paris I'd recommend it, but as you say, it's a bit crazy but if you're young it's the place to be. Spent some 10 years there.

There is Angoulême which has lots of animation and/or graphic stuff, heard a lot of positive about it, a small city but close to Bordeaux and Paris (speed train).

Do your research, there is a lot of fluffy mediocre "schools" everywhere.

Good luck, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate!

Regarding to schools, yeah I agree. I met students that had no idea what to do after they graduate. I met others that wouldn’t want to finish school just so they’d be still financially covered.

Unless you’re at a high status school such as Gobellins, it may not be worth it. Fortunately the animation industry is looking for good portofolios instead of good resumes.

But thank you! Paris may be the move.. I felt really good there for the few days I stayed. It’s just A LOT of stuff happening in every moment 😂. Ultimately somewhere more chill would be the best.

My ex boss's daughter went to Gobelins, she had those crazy good grades, the elite school system here is wild. If you can get a place at the Gobelins it's a once in a lifetime chance IMO.

I programmed computer games in Paris, and it was also way more on a skill based hire approach than a diploma hire, so I slipped through the net that way 😋.

Paris is so good though, I guess even better if you're into the arts, there is a magic moment at every corner, so many museums, happenings, people, history and more. Stressful? Yes, but you gotta find those places where you can de-stress like the magnificent parks. Les colonnes de burenne were totally unknown and abandoned when I lived there, reading a book 100m from the Louvre in total quiet was nice, or sit by the seine somewhere, there are lots of pathways stairs etc here and there. Or at your favourite café of course.

Where are you from if you don't mind?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why??

I lived there and left because I disliked it so much 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–] july@leminal.space 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It seems nice. You have relatively close access to mountains and beaches. It’s a young city.

What is it that you did not like?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you've been there and liked it you're in luck, almost every other city in France is better 😋

It's crazy hot in the summer (especially nights), people are thus angry, agressive, everywhere. People drive like maniacs. The municipality have abandoned most things so the streets reeks of piss, playground for kids filled with crap, glass shards, needles and drug addicts. Lots of those young hobo like people who got the bad treatment in other cities end up there too (the infamous punk à chien), so you get 20 dogs chasing each others on the main plaza with drunks, fights etc. And everyone is agressive, sigh.

The Mediterranean is nice of course, but you can't take the public transport there (the slowest tram in Europe, breaks down when it rains) and it's very "touristic".

In the autumn crazy rains flood everything, and the weather is quite bad all the rest of the year (I lived there for 6 years).

For the mountain access, it's quite far away? Better go to Nice and the Alps, or Pau, Toulouse, Biarritz or even Bordeaux IMO to get to the nice parts of the Pyrenees.

It's on the high speed train line to Barcelona, which is nice (albeit Barcelona has problems with over tourism I have heard) but that doesn't make the city itself nicer.

[–] july@leminal.space 3 points 2 days ago

Omg that sounds BAD 🤣😂

I haven’t even been there. I’ll have to research further.. Thanks for the info!

Location does not matter to me, but where I am at right now is a good place, and that gives me no small amount of happiness, as I try to work out the rest of my issues 😁
