Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

There will be a LOT more and there's no guarantee that we won't be the next.

Please continue voting for Drill, Baby Drill party

My wife works with a renewable company that has most of its projects in Texas.

She tried to engage their company to provide support and they were like, "Lots of people need help. There are wildfires in Utah."

She thinks there is a pretty big nationwide prejudice against Texas.

If so I get it. I feel like Texas shoots itself in the face, constantly, because the voting right is just soo dumb.

But these were little kids and poor families. Yes it was preventable, but that just makes it more tragic.

We failed them already and now we are failing them again.

Their elected officials failed them first by refusing funds from Biden then by taking the funds and using it for the sheriffs'. They've then voted in the party that is making things worse, removing disaster aid entirely, and removing environmental monitoring. It is sad that the kids died but there literally was a federal attempt to prevent this by the Biden administration that was fucked by their Republican representatives.

I suspect the reaction would have been less if the Christian themed camps were spared.

Even so, I doubt even these protests can do much

Yeah, protesting in front of this administration and expecting results is laughable. Even for white people who had their kids die at Jesus camp

I'm sorry but I don't feel bad at all for these parents.

Yeah, you lost your child, your baby. Since this was a Christian Bible camp in Texas that worked hard to break the rules so that they could have their camp cheaply, it's extremely fair to assume that all these parents are trump voters who voted for this shit.

You voted for your child to die. You made your bed, now STFU and lie in that bed.

You voted for your child to die.

It's not what she voted for. You know that, everyone knows that. Still you continue to write this bullshit which dehumanizes the out group. You are the part of the problem too.

No. She DID vote exactly for this. She voted for deregulation because all those pesky rules stood in the way of millionaires becoming billionaires. Oh sure, trump lied his ass off at every corner, but this is what Republicans have done for decades now since basically Reagan.

There comes a point where you can't claim ignorance, and if you can, then I'm sorry but if you're so stupid that one wonders how as a baby you found a tit to nurish yourself, then you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

And all this might might might get a little emotion from me if their voting choices only affected themselves but it hasn't, it has affected the whole goddamn world. Their incompetence and hatred for foreigners caused so much shit, suffering and death world wide that I don't have any empathy left for them.

I hope they will find their kids rotting right there so that they finally can see the results of their actions. We have to live with the rotting consequences of their actions, and you want me to feel bad for them? Let them rot in hell, I'm done with them. They fucked the world for their own gains, they made their and everyone else's beds, now lie in it you fuckers.

We need to demand they can't use their fucking lead filled smooth brain to blame anyone else except their own dumb fuck Nazi asses.

Youre right. They voted for other children to die. Just happens the leopard doesnt care which face its going to eat first.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

for other children to die

This is a promise of fascism: either you die or you hurt the other. It's not that these people are fundamentally broken, they were caught in a system in which they truly believe and exercise that. You would do the same given the same circumstances.

A drunk driver who kills a family on their way home might not have intended for it to happen, but that doesn't remove the drunks culpability. But the difference in this case, that lady definitely did vote to hurt/kill children just didn't expect it to be hers.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

did vote to hurt/kill children

No. She voted for her and her loved once safety and well-being even at the expense of others. Most of the people are not sociopathic and picturing them as such only helps autocracy to rise.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The drunk didn't drive home to kill, they left the party to get back home to their loved ones....Their actions still directly led to death of innocent people. It's their fault for being too ignorant to understand the consequences of their actions.

They voted to kill kids just like every single person supporting tax cuts for billionaires has the death of those who lose needed medical care.

Or use the CEO from United...his actions and policy's definitely helped shareholders but also caused tons of death. Did he vote to kill them ...not directly but putting profits over care definitely killed lots of people that deserves the care they paid for.

So this lady didn't vote for her kids safety and if she says she did, she is either lying or stupid. Take your pick
