Is Musk actually operating under the belief that the literal government is "the resistance" or is he just pretending? I think he might be delusional enough to actually believe it

[–] Sporkbomber@lemm.ee 15 points 14 hours ago

This is also missing the comment where in none of those movies was the richest man in the world a good guy.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 hours ago

He should have changed Twitter's name to Gaslight.

[–] randon31415@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Does Hunger Games, Star Wars, and the Matrix all incorporate a plot of "good guys win, get complacent, government goes back to fascism and they have to defeat it again only it is harder this time around because they are old and people question if doing the same thing again will lead to the same results?"

[–] TanteRegenbogen@feddit.org 2 points 12 hours ago

Do fashy things and the left will attack you. That is just how it is. Dude is such a child.

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Did musk actually post that? First time I want to post something he posted.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 13 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

this usually when elon starts sober up from his drugs, just before he takes more.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 47 points 1 day ago

Richest man in the world, with unchecked power in the government, thinks he’s the resistance?

it’s almost as if he’s a textbook narcissist and actually completely incapable of self analysis

[–] gabbath@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago

Last I checked, in all of those, the resistance tried to save as many people as they could, and didn't think empathy was weakness.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Man the dude is so so close to understand what a douche he is and yet completely misses the point

[–] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's like watching a marksman with good aim shoot in the entirely wrong direction.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 31 minutes ago

More like a blind guy on a merry go round accidentally hitting a near bullseye

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Lmao, no one watched divergent

[–] andxz@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

..I did. Nothing groundbreaking, but decent enough to have on a side screen while flying around collecting herbs in WoW.

Then again perhaps the herbs were more interesting, now that I think about it..

[–] 790@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Probably the 2nd best YA fantasy movie adapted from a book in its era. I'll never not be disappointed by The Giver, but I think they had a hard task to accomplish. É

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

.....Divergent literally killed the trend my dude.

[–] 790@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago

It probably did, but not before it got a couple sequels*. The other YA adaptations were just that bad.

*Their ambitious part one of the final movie was a terrible decision though.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Some girls who were tweens in the 2010s are really upset with you right now.

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But doctor, I am tween girl in the 2010s

[–] ivanovsky@lemm.ee 4 points 15 hours ago

Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

You need to stop going to the 5th dentist for your obgyn exams.

That's from August 2024. Then he didn't have the same power.

I would love to know if he still sees himself as a rebell. https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/42766191 Him leaving politics because of the left criticism suggests that he thought he was fighting the good fight.

[–] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 hours ago

I would agree if he wasn't publicly voting Republican at that point, which he was. By midterms 2022 he had publicly stated that the Democrats were the party of hate and division and that everyone should vote Republican. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_activities_of_Elon_Musk

[–] TanteRegenbogen@feddit.org 2 points 12 hours ago

It would be interesting to see him fake being progressive again, say "it was all a joke" and deliver a non-apology in hopes that his EV sales pick up again.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 49 points 1 day ago (3 children)

...Does he think that the Alt-Right is the Resistance? They're definitely the system, they're the exact opposite of Punk Rock

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There's nothing "alt" about the party that controls all three branches of the federal government. They're just the right.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

The "alt" was a misnomer, to attract young adults that still haven't forgotten the will to censorship of conservatives, so alt-right influencers made it seem like the left were the real censors, because a video game feminist said "maybe we should write better female characters", and a shitty atheist scientist "destroyed her with facts and logic" (yes, that's where the right appropriated that phrase).

I bet his favorite band is Rage Against the Machine and he loves to sing along to In Bloom by Nirvana.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

you are almost there Elon keep straining those cells and you will get it soon

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 64 points 2 days ago (8 children)

How does this guy not understand he’s the villain?

[–] saimen@feddit.org 2 points 13 hours ago

It's actually a great example of the difference between movies and reality. In most movies the evil people "know" that they are evil, they want to be evil. In reality evil mostly comes from people thinking they are doing the "right" thing, which has to be done, while ignoring their empathy or being incapable of empathy.

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 3 points 19 hours ago

Because media illiteracy is almost a prerequisite for being far right wing

When you have so much money that nobody else matters to you and you become the only character in your story.

The best scene in Star Wars was when Darth Vader was curled up at the Emperor's feet crying and whining that he was the cool rebel really.

[–] tflyghtz@lemm.ee 81 points 2 days ago (12 children)

Are you kidding me?

America is literally the Galactic Empire. The Matrix is literally capitalism. The capitol is literally America/Capitalism. I didnt watch the others.

Who if not the (almost?) richest man of earth is the king of capitalism?

[–] kn0wmad1c@programming.dev 46 points 2 days ago (3 children)

He didn't actually see any of those movies. He just paid someone to watch them for him

I was going to say The Matrix was ackshually a closeted trans allegory, but it turns out it's both (but also, whatever you want it to be, kinda).

How cute. He thinks he is part of the resistance and not the thing being resisted.

[–] floo@retrolemmy.com 42 points 2 days ago

Villains rarely see themselves as villains. The worst of them strongly believe that they are the good guys.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 35 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

I realized just how dense this motherfucker is when he said his favourite book is the Player of Games which as an aside presents Fully Automated Luxury Gay Communism as the superior system (which Musk clearly bypassed or more likely never read). He just literally always identifies with the resistance movements without a hint of introspection or deeper thought because of his main character syndrome.

Musk does a better job at disputing the lie of capitalist "meritocracy" than most anti-capitalist critics ever could.

absolutely batshit crazy levels of delusion.

does the richest man in the world think... the "resistance" is... tech billionaires?

does he believe the group recklessly wielding sweeping executive powers, directing raids of homes and schools, imprisoning, threatening, black bag kidnapping dissenters off the street, and deploying the military to the borders.... that they are the resistance?!

i know playing the victim is a standard gaslighting fascist rhetorical maneuver... but if he really thinks of himself as a "rebel" outsider. god help us. this man's continued metabolic equilibrium puts us all in grave danger.

I knew the resistance would win in the end for all of those. Real life feels more like Game of Thrones and we aren't even the main characters.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (4 children)

Hunger Games - Resist oligarchy, enslavement and groteque forms of capital punishment for ancestral "crimes".

Star Wars - Resist the fascist space dictator and the military industrial complex.

The Matrix - Resist authoritarian control, the obfuscation of reality, lack of bodily autonomy, and literal farming of our organs.

Divergent - Resist.. cliques, I guess? I'm gonna be honest, everything I know about this series seems dumb to me. Maybe someone more informed and 10 years younger can make a better case than me here...

V for Vendetta - Resist actual factual old school fascists/Nazis, war crimes, concentration camps, human experimentation, total media control, punishment without due process.

Notice how none of these are "Resist governments that make me pay a progressive tax that limits the burden on lower income earners, that regulate industries to ensure worker, public and environmental safety, that seek to limit the influence money plays in our elections so that our representative democracy remains representative of everyone, not just the rich?" Because the shit you are resisting is the good shit, you dumb manchild fuck. It's not the fucking same.
