Holy shit, I got Baldur's Gate 3 recently on sale for less than this lazy remaster of a 19 year old game.

Gamers are lapping this shit up too. What happened to the rage people had for the Switch 2 being expensive?

Btw its already been cracked for pirating. I'm gonna renew my VPN later cause I've been wanting an Oblivion fix for a while.

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

oh thank god. I was surprised by how much I want this but I can’t bring myself to fork over any more nostalgia bux to the house of Todd

But the deluxe edition gives you bonus horse armor! soypoint-2

Remember when people actually got upset about this sort of thing? When horse armor for the original oblivion was used as an example of game companies just being extremely greedy and blatantly anti-consumer? Haha, remember when gamers actually took issue with DLC and "upgrades" that did nothing but provide an empty cosmetic change to the game?

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago

we were right to be mad at the time

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Horse armour was only like $3 and ppl got mad.

I guess it proves simply complaining about it does nothing because the market will just do what it wants.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

I'm starting to think that this whole "free market" thing doesn't actually solve consumer's problems and only makes them worse... thonk

[–] Lemister@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

Normalization or something.

I remember when dlc used to HUGE addition to the games (even then there were criticized), and not just stuff cut out from the actual game and sold as day 1 dlc.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

Deluxe edition also gets you an art book and the soundtrack

I thought that it was basically just a texture mod at first, too, but apparently this is an unreal engine 5 game, so it actually is a lot more than a texture mod. Even if they call it remastered, it is essentially a full remake. I wonder what this means for the future of the Gamebryo engine.

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's unreal doing the graphics but apparently it's still Bethesda's engine doing the rest of the game. I'm sure they updated some stuff but it's gonna play pretty damn similarly to Oblivion

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

The logic is the same as Oblivion and it plays exactly like that. It's a remaster not a remake.

[–] SamotsvetyVIA@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

what in tarnation...

Ive used this as an opportunity to be real fun at parties and point out to libs “Bethesda is on BDS, so this is kinda like Hogwarts Legacy and you’ll have to decide if a video game is worth it.”

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

Yes gigachad-hd

It doesn't even seem to have Denuvo, so it should be easy to pirate too.

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Remember when an Xbox 360 game could end up being $120 at launch at EB games? I sure do.

[–] insurgentrat@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have no idea who can afford this shit atm.

Also please fuck off with forever culture. Things can be in the past. It's ok to move on.

[–] TheVelvetGentleman@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can afford it. Everything is free if you steal it. Take back your common inheritance.

This isn't true. It has some significant changes, but still feels like the original. They nailed it.

There is new voice acting, and voices are effected by your position to the speaker. They improved the leveling system. They added sprint. The combat feels similar, but is a lot less janky. Of course the improved VFX and SFX. There is probably other things. But it's definately more than a remaster. It feels like a remake.

Oblivion is a bad game to start with

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

compared to morrowind but it's better than everything that came after besides new vegas (which bgs didn't make)

[–] kleeon@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Skyrim is better than Oblivion i-think-that

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

The levelling, graphics, and voice acting are better, but the quests, which imo are the real draw, are vastly worse.

i don't get it

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

agony-shivering lmao $50 US for a texture/model update is now being called high calibre and generous lmao gamers

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yea it's crazy, people see not $80 USD and go "wow, this is so great, they're so generous"

idk if it's that im too indie pilled but if a game is more than like $20 i usually wait for it to go on sale or pirate it
