This is a general community for 40k miniatures, art, lore discussion, and gameplay discussion.

Rules

  1. Keep it civil.
  2. No memeposts/shitposts. Memes are great but direct them to grimdank.
  3. Please mark any posts containing realistic nudity or realistic excessive gore/violence as NSFW; this rule mainly applies to cosplay and realistic drawings rather than miniatures. Being that 40k is inherently violent, this is a judgement call, and mods may occasionally request posters add tags.
  4. No contemporary politics, no political debates. This is a space to enjoy the hobby and get away from the doomscrolling.

Wait, I came here from /all, does Warhammer have old testament lore in it?

40k does borrow from the bible a lot. Especially the Sisters of Battle pictured here. They're literally the army of the church in universe so they have a lot of units with biblical names and their models are sculpted to evoke that imagery.

DO NOT WORSHIP ME AS A GOD EMPEROR

Deliberately creates the aesthetics and practices of a Roman Empire in Space

I don't know much about warhammer, but I don't think it's directly related.

In the lore, the Seraphim Squad is part of the "Sisters of Battle", the military arm of the Adepta Sororitas, a division of the Imperium of Man's state church known as the Ecclesiarchy.

I think they just borrowed the word (and many other words, it's obviously inspired by traditional church, but they don't directly incorporate old testament/jewish lore).

Edit: sick work on the figures, well done.

It is in the sense that the Imperium draws most of its inspiration from the Roman Empire and Catholicism. The Emperor might have officially stamped out prior religious practice but he then went around calling his wars Crusades and his troops his Angels of Death... And then a charismatic member of those Angels rebels against him with half of the Host/Legions because he considers himself superior to humanity.
