“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”

– Gandhi

tl;dr Be the Mr Rodgers you want to see in the world

To anyone who hasn't seen Fred Rogers save PBS from Congress, you should watch this.

[–] brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He was an incredible man. If only we could have him back.

So wild that Fox News called him evil.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Is it wild? Fox News. Who openly pushes Russian propaganda. They are openly the bad guys. It's amazing they can exist and be so blatantly anti-human.

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 15 points 1 day ago

I mean he put his feet in a tub with a black guy are you really surprised?

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Off topic but my personal theory on why trumps slaps with old people is he just talks real slow. To me it makes him sound like an idiot. If you're curious about this just listen to trump at 1.5x and you'll notice he somehow becomes more coherent. I mean, he still has some sort of mental disability behind all that but if I had unlimited money I'd do my own research on this.

It's a hypnosis technique. When you speed it up, you break the spell. He's smarter than people realize, he at least knew who to listen to.

Omg, he just got unelected! Awwww, shoot... Christopher Lee just died again. Wait! He's all better!

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

And for some reason I want to impress Jodie Foster now.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 50 points 1 day ago (1 children)

fred rogers is the main reason why i didn't turn out a hateful, racist asshole like the so-called 'role models' i had in my family.

[–] jared@mander.xyz 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He taught us well, in turn I hope I passed a bit to my kids.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I used Daniel Tiger for mine. Pretty cool show for kids. Not sure what they have now, but will eventually find out when I turn into an old grandpa

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Bluey is the new positive show, from what I hear.

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I always say Ms. Rachel is this generation's Mr. Rogers.

[–] dryfter@lemm.ee 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Left, right, center, up, down…..I don’t give a shit — we all need more Mr. Rogers and learn how to love and not hate each other and our differences

[–] Gowron_Howard@lemm.ee 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Joe Rogan has always sucked. He was a horrible actor, and even worse comedian.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

But we need him to capture the incel vote! The most prized, sought after, voting block.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Meh, I know everything there is to know about incels. You'll never, ever, convince me I should be afraid of them.

Put me in the incel run concentration camp. I'll put it to the test.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They've run every concentration camp

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess that's a theory.... do you know what incels are?

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes. And an incel terrorist killed 32 people in my home town. Last week an incel terrorist killed 2 people and injured 6 more at FSU. I'm not saying you have to agree with the video, but give it a try

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Incels are a very specific group of men who feel as though they do not have the ability to attract a member of the opposite sex. It's not just some term used to put down evey sad disaffected white male.

Do I believe they are capable of terrorism, yes. Do I think they are dominant force in society, no.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes. I know. And that's not the conclusion of the video or what I'm trying to drive us towards. But courting them and weaponizing their frustration with that they can't perform masculinity in a way that works for society has been done frequently. It's important to understand the role they play in fascism as we experience an intensified form of fascism from the one we've been living under. I'm not asking you to agree with the concept, I'm just asking you not to dismiss it before you've considered the totality of the systems of play which you can't have done in this short of time.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just think you're using the term too broadly and it's making upset because I never wanted to be in the position of defending incels.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why do you think you're defending incels? What? No. Fuck incels. FUCK INCELS. They're terrible and dangerous and we need to realize they're dangerous and weird and make a society that keeps everyone else safe from them.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

To me, it's more about them not being able to reconcile an obvious conflict within themselves. They feel so strongly about what they are is right and just, or maybe just permanent, that they can clearly identify they are incapable in achieving something so important to them they accept the inability as their identity. Even though they accept it, they will not accept any outside assistance in correcting it.

Who said anything about wanting Joe Rogan back? And, for that matter, when was he Leftist?

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

You introduced the anything about wanting Joe Rogan back. The meme says we don't want our own Joe Rogan

[–] Crylos@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

He was indeed… I’ll just leave this here. Mr Rogers

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wonder what Mr. Rogers would say about MAGA.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Probably something genuine and heart felt. Dude had an unshakable brand.
