Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

For Mr Musk's sake I hope his neighbor mentioned in the article here has good opsec and isn't able to be found via something like a simple Google search and the name in the town from the article!

Hemmer, who has flown drones over Musk’s house looking for ordinance violations

Wait. If you can fly a drone over Musk's house, you could definitely kill him. I assumed his security would shoot down any drones flying overhead.

Texas is well fucked, but pretty sure discharging a firearm in city limits is something they get after people for there. further, firing upon an aerial vehicle while aloft is also a federal offense even if it is over private property, because the exclusive use of private property does not extend above a certain range into the air.

apparently it's not just a fine, either, it's multiple years in prison (Title 18 US Code 32 of the 1984 Aircraft Sabotage Act).

and yeah, he's a billionaire, but one couldn't be sure it wouldn't be recording directly to some other device and be used in evidence, making it open and shut in whoever pulled the trigger.

a lot of the rules around drones are hilarious and crazy. like yeah, you can get in trouble for spying on someone with a drone, but if they try to jam or knock the drone out of the air above a certain height, they are fucked.

I remember the good old days when Yosemite Sam could shoot a bottle out of the sky with a revolver

Woke has gone mad

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

the one good guntuber wanted to test shotgun loads vs drones but apparently that's a big FAA no-no even if it's your drone.

For Hemmer, the billionaire’s proximity may come at the steepest price. Per the Times, Musk’s security team once reported Hemmer to police, claiming he was naked in the street. Hemmer, who has flown drones over Musk’s house looking for ordinance violations, countered he was on his own property in his underwear.

(I was gonna put a Dale Gribble emote here but apparently we don't have any??)

One of this site's greatest injustices.

Critical support to the HOA president in his efforts against melon-musk

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

I think his neighbors are so rich they don't have an HOA

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 37 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Why does someone as rich and paranoid as Musk even live in a neighborhood? Surely he can just build some compound out in the middle of nowhere and fly back and forth to wherever he needs to be

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He might feel safer around people.

Sure - Elon's neighbors will hate him but he doesn't care. In fact - he might like it. And I think he might feel safer. In the tv series Barry they attack a very isolated mansion with an RPG or something like it.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

god dammit my watch queue is already too long

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The series has one of my favorite tv/movie scenes. It's amazing. All I'll say is that it's the "used car dealership" scene and please don't google it. Even a one sentence explanation will ruin the magic.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

My favorite is the scene where the sniper keeps missing and the target doesn't realize right away he's being shot at. They almost break character several times because they were trying so hard not to laugh.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He probably doesn't want the location of his secret mountain fortress revealed to the plebs

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Good thing too he's gonna be spending a lot of time there now that the NYT leaked his address lol

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope he dies there falling down some stairs and because he's such an outcast, nobody finds him for decades

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

What a horrible thing to wish for! You shouldn't wish for him to die from that!

You should wish for him to settle broken and in agony at the bottom of the stairs and then die from starvation.

[–] fox@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Or he's recovered but quadriplegic and he neuralinks himself and dies in agony from the implant electrifying his brain stem

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 9 points 2 days ago

C'mon, give nature a chance to get in a kick or two. How about horrible infection in the brain?

the $6 million property [...] is one of four homes on the leafy street

His neighbors consist of three people. i-cant

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Weird I was always sold this fantasy of these billionaires living in frugal smol homes and shit thonk

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Periodic reminder that all these rich suburbs are predicated on abundant fossil fuels for heating and cooling, running electricity and water to them is often financially unsustainable, they're car-dependent due to being miles and miles away from business and entertainment districts, and to top it all off, there are just a few choke points to enter their sprawling neighborhoods. A regular Texas mishap (2 inches of snow, a brownout, a car accident in a certain place, or a culvert collapsing) could render these entire tracts entirely unliveable.

[–] Archangel1313@lemm.ee 10 points 2 days ago

Man, if I lived near his house, I'd dump all my garbage outside his front gate every week, instead of putting it in my own bin, on my own curb.
