So first off if there’s a better community to post to I’ll take this post down and post over there

So a buddy of mine is getting a modded Minecraft server up and has some curse forge mods. As I’m away from my computer right now I thought I’d try to get it working on my steam deck. Did some research and the Prism launcher seemed to be the best way to go. So I got the game to boot with curse forge (no mods) and vanilla

Now some of his mods are server side and some are client side so I tried connecting to the server and it said “This server has mods that require forge to be installed on the client”, I’m assuming I got this because I’m booting through prisms curse forge and have no mods

So my question is, he has a code from curse forge that I can use to download his mods from curse forge but I’m not seeing that option on Prism

You'll definitely have to have most of the client side mods installed before you'll be able to connect.

I'm not sure if there's a code option in prism. I know that if he can give you the actual mod list, you can just manually search for an install the mods. All the modded servers I've played on were using a named modpack, so I just would search for that pack and install it.

Alright

I’ve modded Minecraft a while ago lightly so I’m basically in two new territories at once here lol. Would he be able to send me mod files (I think there’s like 300 mods but idk how many are server side) and then.. idk import them into prism

I have limited experience here as well unfortunately. He shouldnt have to send you the mod files themselves, if he sends you the mod names you can download them directly in prism launcher.

You might be best off checking with @arudesalad@sh.itjust.works since he seems to have more direct experience with this.

I can’t remember if I mentioned this but my friend has lime 300 mods

Idk if he downloaded several mod packs or what but another user said he can export the whole thing as a zip and use that

You should be able to. There is an "import from zip" option when creating a new instance

Ooh wonderful

Is it a pre made modpack from curse forge or one they made himself? If it is the first, there should be an option when adding a new instance to download a modpack from curseforge or modrinth.

If it's the second, ask them to send the modlist and add the mods manually. You can do that by pressing "edit" on your modded instance, going to mods on the left, pressing "download mods" on the right and searching for all the mods in their modlist. Make sure when you create the instance you select "vanilla" instead of curseforge and select the forge modloader at the bottom of the menu instead.

When I get home I will add some video tutorials if I didn't explain it well.

Ask him to export the modpack from curseforge. This should create a small zip file. You can import that zip file into prism, and it will re-create the modpack.

Alright I’ll try asking him that

Oh I’m waiting on my buddy to give me the zip file

If he's using a modpack, you can just create a new instance in Prism, select CurseForge and install the modpack.

For single mods, you'll need his mod list and create an instance of the right version. Add a modloader on the same page. Now edit the instance, go to Mods > Download mods and you can download from either CurseForge or Modrinth.
