Finally!!! Playnite was amazing when I used to be on Windows. Unfortunately no Linux tool yet has the extendability and usefulness Playnite has. Looking forward to seeing this on Linux eventually. It really is amazing for unifying game libraries and has decent almost Steam Big Picture-like skins too.

please, we need options other than the steam garbage

I don't entirely mean to throw rocks, but there's something funny about them dragging their feet so long on supporting a linux version (8+ years) that by the time their personal breaking point with windows came, they discovered themselves on the other side of the issue with no one to blame but themselves. Maybe a parable.

To be fair to them the whole UI of the program is currently built with a windows-only framework, so a linux port requires a UI rewrite

AND he does this for free, so we aren't entitled to anything.

Also, on another note: Playnite could very well be the first Linux client with RomM support.

Hadn't heard of RomM before, seems like a very cool project.

[–] warmaster@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, a jellyfin for ROMs, how cool is that? Client integration is a must though, otherwise what's the point?

Tbh they have been waiting for a framework that would allow them to start the Linux version.

Oh hell yes. Playnite was easily the biggest loss for me in switching my home theatre PC to Linux.

Steam Big Picture mode is solid, and I've adjusted to it, but I definitely miss the ease of integration for other launchers and emulators, and some of the more powerful scripting options, easy art adjustments, etc.

I would definitely take a look at this and consider switching back, and it'll make it easier to recommend Linux to my friends who still use Playnite on Windows.

I've never heard of this tool. Is this basically lutris for windows?

[–] artiman@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

yes, but its very customizable you can entirely change the ui, add extensions, etc like a completion status

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

Wonderful, Playnite was awesome when I had Windows.

[–] mumei@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Very nice, Lutris works great but Playnite's beautiful GUI is something I've been missing since I got rid of MS

very nice, a playnite console ui for a linux handheld would be sick

hell yeah, peak is finally coming to linux

[–] LiveLM@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Very nice.
While I do enjoy Steam Big Picture I wouldn't mind having an alternative, specially one that comes with customization built-in Versus Decky Loader and CSS Loader which can break at any time.

[–] MonsterTrick@piefed.world 5 points 2 days ago

If they do, it would be great. I love the customisation of Playnite for game details as well as the plugins.

fuck it, i'll try to put this on the AUR

I'm using pegasus rn with a script to auto download images for the games. It works but everything is manual.
