@AlexPed @salute my uncle's partner was the interpreter for Albert Sabin when he came to Brazil in the 70's 😍 He would also tell stories about how Sabin would eat one banana a day and make everyone around him do the same to be healthier 😁

@melissawm @melissawm @AlexPed @salute when Sabin came to Brazil, he visited Santos, São Paulo. He spent a day at the local Japanese club. My wife, a little girl at that time, was the waitress who served his table.

@biloti @AlexPed @salute my uncle's partner, a dentist, was called Rogério, not sure if she would remember 😊

@AlexPed @salute

Before vaccinations polio put thousands and thousands into metal boxes that breathed for them. They could only talk when the machine "breathed out"

Babies only cry on mechanical out-breath, then silence.

Thousands. Here is a polio ward, the shorter metal boxes are children

Image is dozens and dozens of Iron Lungs, machines that breathed for polio victims, whose muscles are too weak, even to breathe. All of The 11 fingered women are thinking Trump's purpose is to harm Americans and America. Because he is psychopath, driven mad by his crazy rich father.

@AlexPed @salute The pictured machine is an "iron lung". Polio had a paralysing effect on muscles, including those we use to breathe in and out. The iron lung used different air pressures to help the patient expand their lungs. It saved many lives.

@AlexPed @salute I am an old guy (68) and remember my father taking us to a polio vaccination event, back in the 60s. We got the Sabin vaccine (the sugar cubes). He was often not a happy guy, he had bad experiences in WW2 that he refused to talk about, but I remember him being really happy that evening. In retrospect, I think he was happy that his children would not face the threat that his generation faced. And he would be appalled at the antivax people who want to throw this away.

@AlexPed @salute #MAGA has no clue of medicine, diseases, prevention, history, and more.

I am old enough to remember being moved out of town by my parents in the late 50s to avoid an outbreak of polio. Scary stuff!
