I played the shit out of this game for a year or so before it just completely died. I came across a post about it earlier today that reminded me how great it was. I miss it a lot. Relatively slow moving, strategic, 3D space arena teamed CTF, I made some great friends playing that game.

I loved this game, still play it sometimes. My main was the Ghost and later the Paragon. If you want to play it again a small discord exist with a custom launcher and custom servers. Ill post the links to the discord and custom launcher below.

I loved that game. I really expected war gaming to do something with it or with the genre 😩

I loved the hell out of that game. The Widow was sick as hell, stealth missile ship, loved that. It's still pretty high on my list of games by time played and I miss it.

Yess! I put a huge number of hours into this game. It had such satisfying mechanics. Haven’t thought about it in a long time, but one of my favorites.

Do you remember which ship class you mained?

Mine was the gladiator, with a minelayer loadout. Loved to drop in on my team during a fighting retreat and just be a bullet-sponge wall of firepower and mines so they could regroup, heal up, and counterattack.

Paladin was my secondary preferred class.

It's been so long, but I remember loving the Black Widow and the...Interceptor? Getting myself in the perfect position to just absolutely wreck the other side felt so good, especially when stealthed in the Widow. Again I'm having trouble recalling specifics, but I remember the matchmaking being incredibly solid which is why the game was so consistently good. Sometimes things were lopsided, but more often than not it was was good balanced fun, while still being challenging.

When I could find a match I loved it, but it was dying out when I started playing. Then Dreadnought became popular and it was fine for a f2p but didn't really hit the same way.

Ah yes, I liked ghost the best. Stalking a high value target waiting for them to jump and destroy them in a single combo while they are vulnerable and then hiding from the scout ships! You can still play the game BTW. Someone made a bootstrapper that uses steam multiplayer to allow you to play with other people. Most spots will be filled with bots though...

Wait for real? How's that work? Linux capable?

[–] TechieDamien@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, works fine with wine or proton!

See my other comment here with the discord and github links. I have gotten it working on linux by manual patching it. There are linux instructions in the discord.

God I loved this game, and I was surprisingly good at it too? Remember playing some kinda sniper/assassin ship and it just being so damn fun. Was a heck of a lot younger though and wish I could enjoy it now.

I played a little, but it never really clicked for me.

I played for a while, thanks to Jingles. Never really grabbed me though.
