There's a possibility the US - EU beef might spiral into mutual sanctions and since most digital services are US based (Google for example) I wanted to try and setup some stuff in case it all goes down over here

The EU will never sanction the US, that is wishful thinking. They are both imperialists but with different aesthetics. European politicians shit on Trump one the one side but strongly emphasize cooperation on the other.

Whether or not this particular scenario is likely, it’s still a good idea to move away from massive corporations towards towards open / local / federalised alternatives, for many reasons.

I would recommend checking out the European-alternative website.

I’ve moved to where ProtonMail (Swiss) is my primary email account, Ecosea (German) replaced google for search, and Vivaldi (Norwegian) replaced Chrome as my browser.

I actually asked the question of a couple of potential business collaborators, since web-based mail services are going to actively save email and chat for AI training purposes and has an abysmal track record for security, and the business deals with federally mandated protected classes of information. All either could say was "insurance." I was just stunned.

Proton is non-free but European. Cryptpad and Framasoft are FOSS and self-hostable, and also European (French). Framasoft has a page on degoogling: https://degooglisons-internet.org/

As a rule of thumb, if it's non-free and not self-hosted, it's not secure for activism and militancy. But it could be okay for non-critical use cases like work correspondence.

You can also use LibreOffice instead of Microsoft Office and Linux as a replacement for Windows. And Qwen/Deepseek/Mistral instead of ChatGPT and Session/Telegram/Threema as a replacement for Google Messages too.

Qubes is developed by Polish if you don't want shit like Tails. Back in my days of hacking I just load Alpine Linux and use it with I2P, DNS or SSH tunneling, I stop trusting Tor post 2022.

I'm not really techy. Can l create bootable ISOs. Tips / thoughts appreciated if you could point me the right way

Tails is for live boot but there's distros similar like Knoppix and particularly Parrot Security
