Yeah, I try regathering my donations to a non-profit that helps but what little I can give is lost in the mess.

It seems like the best option

  • they provide the most beds of any shelter
  • most meals of any shelter
  • help getting jobs
  • and probably much more

As long as someone is willing to come in and gets there before it fills up ……

Far right politicians are not mindless dupes. They are self-centeredly hopping onto whatever bandwagon they think will best further their personal interest. They are not fooled, they are malicious. They may be only thinking of their immediate self but they are helping build a larger combined evil. If they had any empathy or morals, any backbone, this would not happen. The thing is that simple greed for power should fuel many of our checks and balances but these people can’t even stand up for that. They deserved to be booed and then some.

That’s different from voters, many of whom might be low information and/or manipulated by misinformation, echo chambers and peer pressure. You’re right that a more constructive approach could help them

Yeah, there’s that too. A decade or more ago, our local paper ran an expose on the scammers, but they kept it reasonably constructive, giving equal space to strategies for identifying those in actual need.

For my teens, I kept it simple

  • someone actively soliciting you in a high traffic area is likely a scammer
  • someone sitting quietly, trying to “shrink” away from attention, whether they have their hand out or not, is more likely in need

Same here on a few bad experiences trying to help

  • a guy asked for money to get a meal combo from McDonalds. I bought him the meal combo, so he keyed my car for not giving him cash
  • I suppose I can see this being taken the wrong way, but I tried emptying my pockets a few times, only for them to throw the counts on the ground. After that I started noticing homeless with coins on the ground around them

Realistically, it doesn’t matter anymore since I almost never have cash. They seem to know that world has gone too, as I’m rarely solicited anymore

Plus he controls all three branches of government …. On very slim margins but control is control

If we want to cherry pick …. Here in the US, i switched over to gigabit symmetrical over pandemic, but fiber has been available from three providers at that speed over a decade. Of course IPv6 has been “in progress” for that decade, with no sign of progress

I’m not entirely sure what this style even is - wouldn’t this same argument apply to Apple’s “Memoji” that has been out a few years?

When mine is configured for aggressive regen, it slows the vehicle to a stop. You couldn’t push the car, for example

Life begins at conception! Or before. A chicken fetus is a chicken, an unfertilized egg is a potential chicken fetus

Maybe, but they also need an heir apparent if dear leaders third inauguration is blocked by something as silly as the Constitution, or if dear leader somehow doesn’t live forever. He wants to stand out as a “strong, independent leader” just as capable of fulfilling Putin wishes and further enriching his corporate owners

This is so egregious a violation of national security and government security policy that we’re not even discussing whether it was appropriate

And this makes it even worse, complaining about a mildly dissenting opinion, not the breach of security, not a bunch of yahoos who think they are above security and ethical policies, and not talking about a proxy war halfway around the world

You’re certainly welcome to your opinion, any new doodad that’s one persons shiny new toy that ends up in a trash heap is someone else’s useful tool.

Personally I could argue my smartwatch is better than my phone: it can do almost every phone can, almost everything I used to carry a wallet for, plus warn me if I’m dead …. And it doesn’t let me waste an evening doom scrolling

For those of us still impatiently waiting, what is your experience so far with “Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition”?

—- I ordered just 2 hours in but the vendor I used sold out in 21 minutes. I just found out I also missed the restock, so hopefully some time next month.
