The Mafia manages to get control of a legitimate business with a reasonable line of credit. Say a restaurant. Now they order enough equipment for a dozen places, then resell to their friends at a discount. Naturally the Mafia isn't going to pay any of the creditors. The crooks get all the money and leave the actual owners with the debt.
