I guess it's because of the water force. Water tend to has stronger force in nature place than in a pipe.

For any room floor. I'm also not a fan of small tiles bathroom walls, I prefer simple and smooth surface bathroom wall. Colorful tiles in the kitchen are fine though.
I don't like small tiles. I prefer wood, carpet, cement and smooth large tiles.
