How’s American Dad these days? I remember Season 1 and bits of Season 2 were genuinely funny and mostly based around caricatures of the american conservative. Then I had to stop watching because later seasons started to get more insensitive and “bothsidesy”.

The first 10 maybe 15, 20 is stretching it seasons of the simpsons were alright, parts of them genuinely good. Why we’ve continued another 20 years with lesser writers and low quality slop is beyond me…

I think since everything is using slightly modularised software that integrates each other you end up being overwhelmed by so many names.

Like reddit is just reddit. But to use the lemmyverse you have “fediverse”, “activitypub”, then “lemmy”, “mbin”, “piefed”, (Not to mention all the instances and frontends) etc etc

My rule with langauge:

If you understand what they’re trying to say, then they did a good enough job expressing themselves.

(Also I love how this post is getting loads of upvotes because people are just seeing Bernie’s message and liking it lol).

Was the first paragraph written by the Meta marketing department?

Toward the end of the Cretaceous, flowering plants (angiosperms) transformed ground habitats, making them more diverse. While it was known that tree-dwelling mammals faced challenges after the impact of the asteroid, it wasn’t clear if mammals adapted by becoming more ground-based. Earlier research primarily analyzed complete skeletons to study how ancient mammals moved.

A recent University of Bristol study reveals that many mammals were transitioning to a ground-based lifestyle before the asteroid’s impact. By analyzing small bone fragments—an approach never used to study whole communities—the researchers examined fossils from museums in New York, California, and Calgary. Their findings show that a significant shift toward ground-dwelling occurred several million years before the mass extinction that ended the age of dinosaurs.

Since your Australia section is lacking, here’s a couple:

transport > transit

ute > pickup truck

bogan > redneck

metro > subway

cyclone > hurricane

Does everyone in the comments support madrid?

The state wants to keep its monopoly on violence.

Long COVID is costing countries billions of dollars in lost productivity and increased health and social welfare costs, economists say.

Five years on from the start of the COVID-19 crisis, millions of people are struggling with debilitating health problems that have decimated their lives and livelihoods.

The first cases of long COVID were reported in May 2020.

The OECD, a club of mostly rich nations, estimates long COVID could be costing its 38 members $864 billion to $1.04 trillion annually due to reductions in quality of life and labour force participation. This does not include the extra burden on health services.

The body of a disabled man was found in his flat in distressing, squalid conditions, just weeks after the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) wrongly removed his disability benefits because he had failed to return a claim form.

His sister, his only surviving close relative, believes he may have been left without enough credit on his phone to call for help, while he had not had enough money to fix his broken mobility scooter.

Susan believes the wrongful removal of his personal independence payment (PIP) played a significant part in his death.

She told Disability News Service (DNS): “He was already on the breadline, so I think it would have been devastating for him.”

She also believes DWP failed to make the necessary safeguarding checks before removing his PIP.

She has now warned that the death of her much-loved brother must act as a warning of the horrors to come if the government goes ahead with its planned £4.5 billion cuts to PIP.

Trump’s administration is dismantling disability rights and education. History has shown this can be a warning sign for all civil liberties

The termination follows other steps that appear to target and erase federal responses to the Long COVID crisis.

This news, also reported by POLITICO and the Substack Inside Medicine, represents another blow among several moves this administration has taken to diminish federal resources for studying and supporting people with Long COVID.

Demonstrations for International Long COVID Awareness Day have sparked around the globe. Whether raising awareness about the disease in public or from their homes, people with Long COVID and their allies have raised their voices to demand recognition, research, treatments, support, and prevention of COVID-19 during the ongoing pandemic, as many in the community observe half a decade of Long COVID.

We reached out to international organizers for photos from their actions to document the demonstrations and highlight their demands. From “lie ins” to leaflet handouts to social media campaigns, people with Long COVID and related diseases drew attention to the overlooked disease affecting more than 400 million people globally.
