For anyone confused. Funbun is my new account. Figure id take others advice and let go of the internet identity I've held on to the last 20 years. My first post on lemmy was about this reddit post. With the death of the traditional internet and rise of open source federation it seems like a good time.

RIP rtardbunny, hello funbun.

When private equity and billionairs have enough money to buy up entire social platforms, newspapers, and news stations, and political races... its no longer about community consensus or discussion. Its just pure corporate propaganda.

When sites no longer allow you to speak out against political figures, companies, or conflicts then its time to leave. They are no longer moderating a subreddit. They are moderation information as a whole. They get to pick n choose what you're allowed to rally around and rally against. Sites like lemmy are the next step to a free and fair internet.

Corporate has stolen our internet and our money. Its time to take it back. Federated and open source is the way we do it. Dont let the money tell us what we are allowed to talk about.

Oh there are so many more and worse comments lol. People cant be bothered to read these days or seek out information. If you dont feed them everything the need to know in 6 setences or less than its too confusing and unusable. Took me 30 minutes to figure out and get started.. Still learning the nitty gritty info.

And now im researching how to host an instance through third-party hosting services. But these people cant be bothered to even try it... 😆

To be fair. Majority of users were also excited/supportive. Many never heard of it so i hope it gains traction. Its definitely a huge improvement compared to a few years ago. Im really excited about the open source / federation potential. Get corporate out of our feeds.

Thank you. I will. I was showcasing boost through out the thread. Posting videos of me navigating through the UI. honestly it took me only 30 minutes to figure out how this works, why its great, and how to setup the app. Some people will fight tooth and nail against change and yet continue complaining about the problems over there.

The comments point out some good ideas on improving the experience of lemmy for new users but I got so many comments that just didnt even want to give try it. I made an effort though. Ill keep trying to pull em in.
