I'm 48 now, used to be like you. Now I have to do exercises to sort the bits that manual work and sports don't reach ... if I don't exercise properly I can't do the manual labour without a lot of pain :-/

It's not so bad once you get used to it, just put on some pumping music and enjoy the endorphins :-)

Yeah, some kids need persuasion in order to eat a more varied diet, so that's probably where the thinking comes from, but like anything if taken to extremes it becomes abusive.

Now I'm middle aged and have developed a bunch of food allergies, so I've been forced into picky eating :-(

Probably the weirdest thing for me was a lunch supervisor who decided I had to eat liver when that was part of lunch in the small rural primary school I went to.

It always had the texture of a rubber ball and the flavour of stale vomit. So I would be made to sit and look at it on my plate instead of going out and playing with the other kids, for about 30 minutes, once a week.

I wasn't a picky eater (we didn't have much money, so that was my main meal of the day, I was always hungry), that was literally the only thing I didn't want to eat. Other kids weren't made to eat all of their lunches.

I remember her being really angry about it and standing over me the whole time.

I'd forgotten all about hand pain from forced copy-writing, being a lefty that was a common part of my disliking school

It must be an easy trap to fall into, given how prevalent it is ... I really don't understand people, lol

Yeah, I've seen this a lot too ... extra weird when they also have strong views about how good the government in their country of origin is too :-/

(I'm also and immigrant)

It did feel like I had finally earned my Brownie badge for online feminism ... I try not to argue online now though

Can't speak for the other person, but I'm in Spain and black olives in spaghetti is very normal here :-)

Oh yeah, on Reddit I got called a feminazi or similar on the regular. Ironically it was usually in response to the most tepid of takes, while the actual radical stuff didn't get anything ... I guess they didn't like the idea that someone might put up a fight?

Meanwhile, my sister in law said to my wife recently that DEI has gone too far ... she's a well paid executive, who if it weren't for DEI would never have got her job. My other half has been trying to gently steer her back to sanity.

On the plus side I now have House Centipedes, which are like spiders who are in training for athletic competition (they run at about human walking speed).

I went and looked up the water drop hat thing, apparently water was put on jumping spiders for cute photos and isn't a real thing :-(
