What happened to the "Trump is going to declare martial law on 4/20" stuff? I know that was a deadline for some report based on an early executive order:

Sec. 6. Reporting Requirement. (a) Within 30 days of the date of this proclamation, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the President, through the Homeland Security Advisor, a report outlining all actions taken to fulfill the requirements and objectives of this proclamation; and

(b) Within 90 days of the date of this proclamation, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall submit a joint report to the President about the conditions at the southern border of the United States and any recommendations regarding additional actions that may be necessary to obtain complete operational control of the southern border, including whether to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807.

(Partially) In response to the new US tariffs, a bunch of Chinese factory TikToks started posting detailed videos about ~~the labor theory of value~~ how overpriced big name handbags and other luxury goods are. These videos succinctly explained the cost and quality of the materials involved, the techniques and skill required to make these luxury goods, and end asking the question "is the branding really worth thousands of dollars when the handiwork is identical?" They then offer links to the products and the factory's store.

TL;DR: Chinese TikTok's did "How It's Made" but included the bill of materials

I'm always cautiously optimistic about news along these lines, but I am choosing to be happy that this appears to be a step father than what we have detected before. If it is determined ths it is likely life, hooray! If it is determined that there are too many other explanations, I'll be a bit let down, but we have at least advanced the science of seeking life on other planets considerably.

This is a new and unique data point, and if it is repeatable and replicable--this is great news.

Oh thank fuck. I wasn't on the 'life is too rare to exist elsewhere in the vast universe" side of the Fermi Paradox, but it's nice having even a minor indicator that even if we totally glass the planet or catch an asteroid the universe won't wind up empty.
