Kinda wish we could pin this post to the top of everyones feed for a while! 😅 Lemmy has been a great place so far but think we can do even better. Especially with the points you bring up.

Thanks for sharing 😊

Dig these posts as always! 🙌

The Gameboy camera is by far the coolest thing I've seen all week! Seems like there is more interest towards these "modernized" versions of the gameboys lately, such as the miyoo mini plus you showcased last week, love it!

It is extremely easy to switch email providers these days. I'd suggest start by setting up a forwarded mail box between Gmail and whatever new mail provider you choose. Then slowly but surely start using the new email address instead of Gmail and change the most important accounts to the new one.

From my understanding thunbird is somewhat separated from this. From the article linked by OP it says:

What’s crystal clear is that Thunderbird’s ever-increasing donation revenue (currently its sole source of income) is allowing for some explosive growth that’s long overdue. To add some context to this, Thunderbird received $2.8 million in donation revenue during 2021. Two years later, in 2023, it received $8.6 million in donations. I’m told that total financial contributions for 2024 were even higher, though the final amount hasn’t been officially released.

They also currently have a 62% deal of their highest tier for the next 10 days. Rather good deal!

Thanks for this!

Real unfortunate news for GrapheneOS users as Revolut has decided to ban the use of 'non-google' approved OSes. This is currently being posted about and updated by GrahpeneOS over at Bluesky for those who want to follow it more closely.

Edit: had to change the title, originally it said Uber too but I cannot find back to the source of ether that's true or not..

Hi there good folks! Trying to wrap my head around how this stack works. Previously I've been using NextDNS for this and it worked wonders. However, I've wanted to explore other options and have now gone with the Adguard+Unbound route on a RPI 4B.. This setup defo works, its blocking what I want blocked, but its created a new issue I've not had before. On my Graphene OS phone, as long as this setup is "active" (e.g. over Tailscale), all my notifications through various applications are getting delayed. Each notification come roughly 10 min late, if at all, or appear as soon as I open the corresponding app. I'm pretty sure this caused by either Adguard or Unbound but betting my money on Unbound - as I don't see any relevant DNS queries being blocked.

I am still a little unsure of what is causing this issue so if anyone would be able to enlighten me on how I could troubleshoot this issue I would be very grateful.

Hiya, I am looking into a few different services to better manage my finances, among the highest recommended ones there is ActualBudget. Actualbugdet itself is opensource and private, however, to get the most out of this service you may connect it to your bank, via a third party service. Has anyone here actually done this? The service (for EU folks) is called GoCardless. This however, to me is ringing many alarms..

Here is the screenshot showing the message before connecting to my bank..

Here GoCardless's list of partners/suppliers:

I assume there is no private alternative that allows you to connect to your bank into AcualBudget or another service, if so please let me know! Managing finances would be so much more convenient if it all was automatically synced into a self-hosted service.

Let me know how you manage your finances :)

These small little handy-dandy devices seem to get more and more popular. Anyone here chipped in for a JetKVM yet? Looks and sounds pretty solid. Are there a lot of you that have aquired a nanoKVM?

Hey there!

I'm thinking about starting a blog about privacy guides, security, self-hosting, and other shenanigans, just for my own pleasure. I have my own server running Unraid and have been looking at self-hosting Ghost as the blog platform. However, I am wondering how "safe" it is to use one's own homelab for this. If you have any experience regarding this topic, I would gladly appreciate some tips.

I understand that it's relatively cheap to get a VPS, and that is always an option, but it is always more fun to self-host on one's own bare metal! :)

Hi folks,

Just set up Nginx Proxy Manager + Pihole and a new domain with Porkbun. All is working and I have all my services service.mydomain.com, however some services such as pihole seem to be strictly reachable with /admin at the end. This means with my current setup it only directs me to pihole.mydomain.com which leads to a 403 Forbidden.

This is what I have tried, but with no prevail. Not really getting the hang of this so would really appriciate a pinpoint on this :)

Hi there, I've just done the switch from NextDNS to PiHole. Simply because I want to test it out + self-host my DNS. I set up PiHole+Unbound two days ago, and yesterday the amount of "Queries blocked" was much higher that it is now. But this morning the number was down back to 100ish. Is this normal behaviour, is it supposed to reset the counter? I'd rather it didn't. Let me know if this is my fault or a setting I've managed to miss.

Thank you.

Hi there!

Wondering what types of setup people have that allow them to, while the internet is down, still watch/stream media from their servers. I have a stacked Jellyfin library that, and would like to see this feature/setup in my own house. My Unraid server is on the other side of the house from where the living room is. Is there actually a sane way to achieve this?
