Incidentally, that bottle and those tickets and that seat all see the price go back into the pockets of other rich people in the form of rents and dividends.

Your Taylor Swift ticket price isn't going to the pockets of the stadium staff. Its barely going to Swift herself. The lion's share simply goes to whomever has title to the stadium, built with public money and traded away at a loss to friends of the politicians that commissioned it.

I mean, who else would have been able to run the government

Holocaust survivors and refugees, for starters. Germany was fully occupied by the US and USSR, so all the big decisions were going through DC/Moscow anyway. Turning the government over to survivors and any resisters you could find would have made far more sense than simply handing the country back to the Fascists.

Oh Lord, he's thinking about it!

More than those two, by a long shot. The AfD, the Le Penns, Reform UK, the list goes on.

It’s impossible to have a fair election when you’re at war.

How many elections has the US held during war time? Hell Lincoln won his second term before the Civil War was over.

The entire global trade system is in free fall.

It's so crazy to blink past tanking indexes in Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Dubai while pumping a fist and announcing "Fuck yeah! We got Russia!"

If anyone should be extremely worried right now, you'd think it would be the Saudis. Not one of the most sanctioned countries on earth.

That's not going to work in practice. The US economy is even more tangled under the hood than it is internationally.

Might as well say you're taking a called shot on someone's left ventrical, because you don't want to hurt any other part of their body.

Not really a matter of forgetting. Trump was a leading advocate for Brexit. He wants to see the EU dissolved.

We have a single region that has been rebellious and trying to corrupt and destroy the rest of the union since the founding

Isn't a ton of the current Trump administration rot coming from Silicon Valley?

Isn't Silicon Valley in California?

Lincoln was wrong to readmit the south

The South was under the Reconstruction plan, complete with Marshall Law and Freedman's Bureaus and all sorts of additional federal oversight, untilThe Compromise of 1877 gave Rutherford B. Hayes the presidency at the cost of his soul.

Lincoln didn't simply readmit the South. He readmitted 9 million enslaved Americans as proper first class citizens. And the initial wave of democratization gave birth to a brief but generally optimistic egalitarian glimpse of a potential future.

Lincoln's big mistake was not putting Smedly Butler into his VP seat. Letting the country revert to Andrew Johnson was the big blunder. One that Grant had to spend two terms mopping up.

But that's all distant history. The modern fascist presidency is born out of Manhattan Island. The modern Texas/Florida/Ohio Axis of Evil is a product of Yale Business School. Stanford Alumni are fucking us up far more today than some Daughters of the Confederacy could have dreamed.

This isn't a North/South problem. It's a turf war between extractive industry and the professional class.

Artificial Generalized Incompetence

On Friday, president Donald Trump had signed an Executive Order, Continuing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy, directing severe cuts to IMLS, which provides resources to museums and libraries in all 50 states and territories, calling for it to be “eliminated to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law” within seven days. Staff had already been reduced, said the employee, due to steps like the termination of probationary employees.

Word quickly got out Thursday morning on a whistleblowers’ channel on Reddit. “The Institute of Museum and Library Services is being raided by DOGE and the new Acting Director (also somehow DepSec of Labor) Keith Sonderling with the express intent to shut it down,” wrote one anonymous poster. “Sonderling was sworn-in in the lobby of the office building and they are proceeding with quickly and quietly dismantling the agency. There are Department of Homeland Security personnel present—to bully a bunch of civil servants who administer grants to museums and libraries.”

China has near global monopolies on these exports, accounting for 98% of global gallium production, 93% of germanium production, and 49% of antimony production.
