I don't consider YouTube to be in the same category as these other streaming services. I use YouTube way more as the content is more interesting to me. But still...

  1. Most of the streaming services have subscriptions (some with ads). YouTube is completely free with ads (ublock origin saves the day).
  2. Content on YouTube is very different from other streaming services. I know YouTube have dipped its toes in the tv show market e.g. the karate kid series but nothing compared to the big productions like white lotus or lord of the rings.
  3. Length of content. YouTube is anywhere from 1 minutes to infinity (almost). Traditional shows on streaming services often is around 45 minutes +/- 15.
  4. YouTube had the worst recommendations algorithm nowadays. Seems to be the general opinion yet YouTube aren't listening.

Probably more points I haven't thought of.

Oh forgot. Best multiplayer game ever has to be Counter Strike 1.6, CS:GO and potentially CS2 in a few years.

Or just explain instead of bringing that language. Why even bother answering?Classic Linux nerd comment. You always just "search!". You just dump a random short. How Then you expect to read through pages of documentation to install a font? Yes, yes you do because you are probably a Linux god who enjoys reading through technical stuff that makes NO SENSE to non-technical people.

Maybe just not come with advice if you are going to be a dick as soon as one asks a follow up question.

Yeah I found out but the first three guides I found all use the c/p to font dir. However, you are correct - gnome and kde both have GUI apps to view and install fonts. But wasn't aware since the guides I found didn't talk about these apps.

So, ignorance on my part 😬

Nah, I think it's simply a design choice made for gnome files. Been playing around with other file explorers that checks my requirements. The joy of freedom.

No, but we haven't yet seen the influx of proprietary software on Linux.

Say that Adobe, MS and Autodesk enters this space. You think that gnu/Linux will stay on the path of being Foss or will it become more proprietary and closed? Or will these companies fight and use their influence and money to e.g. push for permanent proprietary code in the kernel?

All speculations of course.

No, that's not what I wrote. But I fear what will happen to the gnu/Linux/Foss community if Linux becomes a land for non-foss. My premise for my concern is that we should fight against non-foss in this space. This is a ideological stands which you may or may not agree with.

It wouldn't but since these software companies (Autodesk as another example) have a monopoly, I doubt that most windows users for some reason would switch to Foss alternatives - thet already have that ability with windows. I fear that Linux basically becomes windows in terms of what software is primarily used, i.e protritary software.

My premise is that Linux and its user space applications should be free software and that the community should fight back against non-foss in this space.

Just came across this issue today. I need to install a font. The dir is not accessible through gnome Files. Actually, nothing but mmom ounted drives and my Home dir is. So if I to work in dirs outside my Home, I HAVE to use the terminal. Just to copy a font to a dir outside my Home.
