Can I just say, not that it registers as important compared to the actual genocide, but the amount of articles and reports and votes that say stuff like this is so frustrating. I get that its part of the bureaucratic process but holy fuck I wish this lead to......... Something....... Like hopefully its cumulative I guess but the number of dead and starving while we decide if they deserve it is just insane.

The idea of spending two minutes to think of "precisely the information I need" is so funny. Like... Yeah dude. If I needed to know an exact piece of information, I could probably just search for it in the regular way. Reading a book, especially a nonfiction book, teaches you a lot about the subject and allows you to back up your answer and understand the context. Having an AI tell AI to compile information that an AI will then turn into a summary is fucking useless. Just search for it on the internet if you know the exact information you need. Not to mention that if there are that many layers of AI, it would be very difficult to separate the hallucinations from the 'good' information presented. But yeah homie you're an expert

Well honestly this is very likely good news for him. Now, not taking over Canada is an actual national security threat...

Kinda crazy that the country that has been waiting for a tyranny since it began and has stockpiled guns the entire time is now like "hey let's talk about it".

I'm a noon to Linux but I still love using terminal to download apps and stuff because it just looks cool. ASCII makes me feel like I know my way around computers but I'm just installing Firefox lol

Its kinda funny that when I read "hour-long wait calls" I initially thought you were complaining about being on hold for too long. I just couldn't imagine a scenario where they were helping you the entire time and it was positive lol

So exciting to see that this might start making some changes. I would be very happy to see European-style small cars that are simple and just made to get you from one place to another. It doesn't need to be an identity thing.

Of course, public transit is better but light trucks would be a good start I suppose. Won't save the environment but might save lives in accidents

You know how you can tell we're fucked? They're not saying we're going to be in a recession anymore. They're saying "its going to be similar to a recession".

Very specific weird fear:

One time, when I was a kid, I was on a road trip and we stopped at a McDonalds for some food and to use the bathroom. I went into the bathroom and the floor, walls and ceiling all had the same tile covering them. I don't know why, but when the door closed, I was so fucking terrified I made it halfway to the toilet and then turned around and ran out. It was such a strange experience and I have no idea why it got to me that bad.

I don't have a problem with cybernetic augmentation, I mostly would have a problem with the state of technology companies. I likely wouldn't choose to get any because I would not be able to trust them. However, if I could get any sorta (relatively) basic augmentation, it would be built in headphones. Like to just be able to "hear" music and podcasts and audiobooks. My focus wouldn't even be upgraded hearing or anything.

So do y'all have any similar quality of life augmentations you would want?

Just my two cents but as others have said, not being publically traded helps a lot. The focus on short term benefits that come with shareholders stops "master plans" when they come with mistakes. Learning from relative failures, like the steam controller and the like, ultimately contributes to major successes like the steam deck. Being able to stay committed to improving the software experience over time, instead of killing the product when it didn't immediately succeed, is fairly rare in the tech industry. And in all honesty, it would be better if they released a polished profuct, but being committed to it made it a success.

I feel like the pressure to have a majorly successful product day one means that smaller companies can't innovate the way they want to, so they have to find other ways to produce revenue. Huge companies, like Apple can afford to do both but still stumble, like with the vision pro. Maybe it'll be a success, but for now its not great and iteration makes it more difficult to maintain the original vision.

I switched to grapheneos on pixel 9 straight from iPhone. The only reason I have any google stuff on the phone is because of RCS messaging. There is literally nothing I have any issues with on this phone, software or hardware. It has been a very smooth and comfortable transition. I very much recommend giving it a try. I think you'd be surprised how little google (exclusively) gives, compared to how much they take.
