"AI" brought a lot of bad things, but this shit is pretty good. In the thumbnail I only see the text, but when the image opened in full size it looked like a completely different image without the text. The brain is a funky little meat computer

I've switched a few months ago. Plenty of issues, but none of them major enough anymore to go back again. All games I play regularly apart from Assetto Corsa work, and AC should also be fixable as far as I read.

Just a few days ago I got the first racing sim working properly with my wheel. AC doesn't start yet and Automobilista 2 does not match the irl steering wheel movements (this also happened on Windows sometimes), but ACC worked without much of an issue.

For music production I also got most of my setup working. I'm having a lot of issues with opening my old projects, but I wasn't actively working on them anyways and with some effort I can get them back. Still some issues like the Vital synth CLAP version crashing when the window is opened and the Splice sample thingy not allowing drag and drop, but we'll get there. For new projects it's mostly workable.

Basically everything else I need just works. Games, photography stuff, everyday programs, and obviously my programming stuff because it was already on Linux.

I use Arch by the way :3

Ah thanks for the info! Together with the other in-depth comment this is painting a good picture of what's happening. Though I have some terms to study before I'll get it.

Okay I have some reading to do haha. Thanks for the explanation!

As a programmer (who also did quite some math) it never ceases to amaze me how often math just uses single character variable/function names that apparently have a specific meaning. For instance the P^(n)(R) thingy. Without knowing this specific notation, one might easily assume it meant something else like power sets. Even within the niche I'm more familiar with (machine learning) there was plenty of that stuff going around.

Then again, this meme has an incentive to make it harder, it wouldn't be funny if it explained symbols.

I'm Dutch and I have similar memories. Fries, crisps, and/or ice cream used to be a quintessential part of the pool visit. Kinda makes me nostalgic thinking about it. After all that moving around the fries were an even better treat.

Yeah this was a possibility I was thinking as well. The superscript n could just be n recursive applications, but then n is still not defined. It's one of the things that makes me thing that it's just nonsense. Also, how do you do math on Lemmy? Can you just use LaTeX math syntax or did you copy those symbols?

Okay, so:

  1. ๐Ÿ‡ = 1, because 1 + 1 + 1 = 3
  2. Therefore, ๐Ÿช = 2, because 2 - 1 - 1 = 0
  3. ๐Ÿฅช is the set of all integer numbers Z, as defined
  4. I am not sure about ๐Ÿ”, but I assume that it's the set of integers with all even numbers removed, therefore it's the set of all odd numbers.

Beyond that starts the nonsense for me. I'm very curious whether that stuff actually checks out. Some of the terms I remember from group theory, but other stuff seems incorrect to my (limited) knowledge.

  • The second definition of ๐Ÿ• seems to contain redundant information, as far as I can see " --> " defines a morphism, so why does the predicate "ฯ† is a morphism" matter?

  • The first definition of ๐Ÿ• with the contravariant thing also doesn't parse for me, what does that "-" mean in the function arguments?

  • In the definition of ๐ŸŒญ, what is the n (or the P)? ChatGPT started yapping about real projective space, but I'm not sure if that's correct.

If there's an actual mathematician here who knows then I'd love to know the answer. I've kinda been nerd sniped by this question but I don't possess the knowledge to fully get this one

Yeah that as well. Same with my browser. I tend to configure my browser such that it clears all open tabs when closed.

I always power off any computers that I won't be using anymore for the day. Be it desktops or laptops. My parents always taught me that leaving devices on (or even connected to power) when not using them was a fire hazard. Although I think it's a bit overblown, powering off anything I don't need has stuck as a habit and I see no reason to change it. With SSDs the startup time had become fast enough to make me stop caring. The wear and tear on the SSD is also not that big of an issue. My laptop and its SSD are from 2014 and have been subjected to the worst of my programming abilities, yet they still function fine.

No it's more just browsing social media liek Lemmy or doen specific Reddit communities that aren't here. As a kid I used to be able to read books easily, but it's become way harder with all this "easy" dopamine around

Recently I was sitting in a bus for hours. My Steam Deck was already empty. Bravely, I decided to finally continue reading Dune. I was enjoying the experience (after the initial confusion from forgetting who everyone was). But somehow, despite being interested in what was written, my brain constantly wanted more stimulation. To grab the slate of glass that provides endless dopamine. To click buttons. To have a constant stream of simple information.

I'm kinda scared tbh. This shit is an addiction, and I'm addicted. But most other people around me seem just as much or even more addicted. What happened to just being able to do something for an hour without feeling the need for different stimulation. We're all poisoning or minds until we're incapable of paying attention for more than a few seconds.

I must consume all the licorice. It's very common here in the Netherlands and I fucking love it. Especially the salty licorice with salmiak (or whatever y'all call it).

My transition to full on Linux gaming mostly went okay, but recently I've started running into some issues with more demanding games. In games like Cyberpunk 2077, Stalker 2, and inZOI I sometimes get KDE and/or Wayland crashes when the VRAM runs out. In Cyberpunk I can avoid it by not enabling RTX, which is fine. But Stalker 2 and inZOI are basically all-in on raytracing and therefore seem to also fully eat up my 8GB of VRAM.

Is there any way of constraining the games to like 7.5 GB or something? Because they seem to actively work to stay below 8GB, so clearly there is still stuff they can clean up. And even if they'd go over the limit, I'd prefer the game to crash rather than basically having Wayland restart, losing everything I had open. I'm curious for you experiences
