Damn. So if you have money, you get decent products. Thanks for the great reminder.

Wait until you read about the need for homogenity in the capitalist system. Its not us, its not even them. Its systemic.

meh, I dont think thats accurate. I would say "opportunist" is a better fit. Anticapitalists understand how profit extractions works and have a very different view on society. Mostly one that does not work on .world because of the capitalist propaganda machine running in the west.

[–] haui_lemmy@lemmy.giftedmc.com 9 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

You said capitalism and summoned your resident anticapitalist. How can I be of assistance, comrade. :D

We're arguing on the assumption that living in western europe isnt "rich". Even the people living from state welfare with running water are better off then 50% of the planet because they even have clean water.

Notch btw started as a programmer at the age of 18 (wikipedia) and lived in sweden, one of the richest countries in the world. Having the time to learn programming at that age is already a sign of (white) privilege.

There. Is. No. Self. Made. Wealth. Period.

That on the other hand is not saying that notch wasnt successful, he undeniably was. But he is an unethical prick for keeping the money and engaging in debauchery. He does not deserve praise, neither does any rich person. You know who deserves praise? Dr. Ernesto "che" guevara does.

Not inherited is also wrong. Because more than 50% of americans live paycheck to paycheck, one can assume that private schools, elite universities, etc are also inherited wealth.

They dont spawn with billions but they started at the top and just built exploitation empires.

The is no such thing as self made wealth and an insane majprity of it is already being very comfortable and just going full bore.

I'm not saying financial success has nothing to do with capabilities and discipline but surprisingly little.

Or to quote jay gould, who said it before:

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Your comment would have made just as much sense without the condescending first sentence. I would have apologized and thanked you for correcting me.

But you chose to be a dick.

Have a nice day.

Oh interesting! What do you use for that and what is the result? Flac or other?

Whats EAC again? I'm always eager to learn what possible show stoppers exist for people.

I think the word you are searching for is accomplice. Every state in the world is an accomplice to this genocide. And every state who delivered weapons to fuel this should immediately hand over their heads of state in that period to den haag for genocide support an imprisonment.

Dass sich maja seit der auslieferung in einzelhaft befindet haben sie ganz vergessen zu erwähnen... Hm, bestimmt nicht so schlimm /s

I tried testing a movie from my home server in plex through firefox and repeatedly got this message, even after reloading.

I knew that they had paywalled the apps on mobile and streaming from outside the network but now they have also blocked watching your own movies through your own hardware.

I do get the point that making software should be able to sustain people but I dont see the move of plex as a fair thing to do. Yes, they have made great software but taking your home server hostage feels like the wrong move.

Even a pop up that says "we need you to donate please" would have been fine. make it pop up before every movie, play donation ads before any movie but straight up disabling the app is kinda cruel.

Anyway, i have switched to jellyfin and it is insanely good. please give it a try. you can run it alongside plex with not issues (at least i had none) and compare the two.

In any case, good luck. Let me know if you need help.

There are a couple of governance systems in the world. Parliamentary democracy, direct democracy, anarcho syndicalism, etc.

With its decentralized nature, mostly free movement between communities and instances, which governance system would be closest?

How many of us would be bankrupt?

Hi folks! I'm here with another idea. Let's make an amazon alternative. I know! I know! That was asked for a couple times already but lets discuss some details.

Amazon is basically glorified dropshipping by now. What if we just made federated (not sure if over activitypub would work) ads and sales, powered by fediseer (the "trust" network of the fediverse).

Example 1: So you buy at toms groceries, you trust them. they have experience with tina's hardware store and they trust them. so you can buy both toms and tinas wares on both sites.

Example 2: So for example, I run a small business that sells computers. You run a small business that sells mice and keyboards. I have worked with you before so I mark you as trusted in my local website, which federates with yours, showing your products in my shop. If a customer buys my computer and buys your keyboard on top, my site sends you a buy order with customer address and payment. I get a small fee for my electricity of say 1%.

Can someone try and poke holes in this idea? It feels like this could work!

Have a nice weekend.

Hi folks, I'm running a pi4 with rpiOS and had been using rdp to log into my pi that has no peripherals connected. I can still ssh in and I do have physical access but this kinda bothers me.

I know rpi connect is a thing but I'm not too comfortable using another "cloud service" to connect to something on my homenetwork from my homenetwork.

The rdp service does not seem to run anymore and I am unsure how to search for the culprit. I did search for a service resembling rdp on the journal but it doesnt turn up. what could be the correct service name?

Thanks for reading. have a good one.

VLC as always saves the day. Most recently for me when you want to watch HDR UHD ripped to 1080p. With plex, this becomes a problem you need to buy a plex pass for and more significantly, must have a '16 Intel CPU or newer to be able to remap it while VLC does so in the fly.

Details: In plex, the colors are so washed out it looks like a black and white movie. In VLC, the colors hit you like

Addition: I tried two remedies while packing with handbrake. BT.709 colorspace and a custom one from reddit. Both lead to the movie being so dark that you cant see most of the details.

Conclusion: VLC being open source, we should be able to see what they are doing and copy this behavior. if plex wont do it without payment, this could be huge for jellyfin for example.

Anyone with actual knowledge who can shed light on this?

The peertube kodi addon has been unavailable for a long time and it's sad because peertube has a lot of cool videos.

That's why I decided to make a new one for the python 3 generation of kodi. It is available on the official repository under "next gen peertube addon" or plugin.video. pt

The app is pretty basic but works (tested on kodi for linux). Disclaimer: For some reason, the libreelec version of kodi does not seem to work with it yet. I'm troubleshooting the issue atm.

Feel free to download and test the app, check the source on github and leave a star or support the project if you wish.

Today I encountered something new and dystopian:

You can airplay from your iphone to an appletv but now youtube drops and locks the quality at 360p, making the content unwatchable on larger screens.

Once you disable airplay, the quality jumps back to 1080p. If you choose 1080p before and enable airiplay after, it still changes.

This hasnt been an issue for years. this new anti consumer move prompted me to order another raspberry pi to put kodi on.

Hi folks! I'm currently trying to learn a good workflow to fork a (say) github project and work on it on my forgejo. I have made forks and PRs in the past but I fail to see how to do it in this case, at least efficiently.

I could of course fork on github and mirror the repo on my forge. That would include me putting my work on github instead of only making a PR on github. I would prefer forking directly to my forge and sending only the PR on github. On the other hand, if I delete my fork afterward, it was pretty irrelevant to begin with.

How would you approach this?
