Relays rebroadcast public posts to instances that are subscribed to it. For admins, adding relays helps increase the potential amount of posts that reach your instance.

I've recently made some updates to the ActivityPub Relay I maintain. This includes a regularly updated list of connected instances for monitoring their status and having an easy way to refer to instances for inquiry. I've also added a relay policy which states instances will be banned for featuring bigoted content or having poor admin/uptime.

I definitely have room for some more Mastodon, Misskey, and Pleroma instances.

The relay server itself is located in the east coast of the United States, but open to all regions.

It really depends on the situation. Hardware support is definitely better than it used to be and everything in linux is hackable regardless of distribution if needed, but the reason I haven't switched my main tower from Arch to Debian is that fear of requiring extra work for things like gaming and music production. If you're running the newest and latest hardware you might run into an issue depending on the kernel version being used, etc.,

That being said, I use Debian every day on my thinkpad and love it. I have an interest in migrating away from Ubuntu Server and toward Debian for servers as well. I don't think I've ever heard it "not recommended", just similar caution expressed.

Interesting, maybe it varies by model? Mine was some worm maze thing

Not only did they not have to keep it this long - there are a handful of better ways to store that data

I had a phone call with my dad the other day helping him with his situation on his Win10 machine (his hardware doesnt support TPM) - and he was offered a free year of extended support. Was this not offered to all users?

My first system was a ColecoVision, but Master System is really the first system I have vivid memories of from childhood. I think the Master System overall was my favorite part of being 4-6 years old - playing Shooting Gallery, Fantasy Zone, Ys, Missile Defense 3D (I think that was the name), etc., It also felt mysterious (?) to me because a.) I was the only kid I knew with one and b.) things like the hidden game (I forget the game exactly) that would come on if turned on the system with no cartridge inside.

Why on earth would you store customer data in a private github repo???

Are you asking for an alt front end/app for Reddit?

I'm all for new private messaging services - going over features though... what does this offer that others don't? It doesn't seem to require a phone number which is cool, but we already have Session and Matrix for that.

100% a human right. If you don't have the internet today you kind of can't exist easily.

I setup a Mastodon relay - anyone want to help me test by adding it to their instance? Would help me know if the "Recent jobs" stat is working (I think it requires 2 instances at minimum to show jobs) and if adding to instances (outside of my own) is working properly and how traffic looks.
