Wow, this is visionary.

The letter is from 30 associations among which the one of the website I linked. Try to contact them

Also I drive a van and I think it’s cool since obviously I’m cool and so my car kinda has to be, too, so I’m not sure if I agree with your first point

sorry, my mistakes. Vans can be absolutely cool. I think the electric one from VW is extremely cool. It's just not the kind of cool that people with fragile masculinity would desire

In Copenhagen, meteorologists predict the city will receive 30% more rainfall by the end of this century.

Oh shit

EuroNCAP suggested to try to change something, apparently they are not catching in their test, but they acknowledge the issue

https://etsc.eu/calls-grow-to-address-safety-risks-of-large-vehicles-in-urban-areas/

Euro NCAP calls upon the vehicle industry to improve the vehicle crash compatibility of future models and not to accept settling for the status quo. It believes Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier testing can help manufacturers engineer their cars and vans to better protect occupants in the event of a head-on collision

But is it an unethical car? It fits a lot of stuff or a lot of people or a fair amount of both, but I guess the same thing is true for the f150. Visibility is much better I guess, but would pick ups be more moral if they had a lower hood?

some thoughts about your post

  • nobody would buy a van if not in need, because it's not cool, it costs more etc. So you would end up having less big vehicles on the road. There is no need to regulate too much something that is numerically not important
  • the hood height for the van is lower and visibility is better: you can find a lot of studies that connect the former with less killings and less serious injuries and the latter with less collisions, so definitely less dangerous
  • i actually think that if pickups had lower hoods, they would be more moral, yes, because they would be less dangerous. (see above)

Slow down your love: this is just a proposal from a bunch of associations. On the other side there are car industry lobbies and their enormous profit margins, which are particularly strong. Let's see what happens

30 associations are proposing to the European Commission to impose a limit on the size of new cars, in particular the total width and bonnet.

A report connected with this request showed that the average bonnet height of newly-sold cars in Europe is increasing by 0.5 cm a year.

Many studies showed that bigger cars and higher bonnets are related to more collisions, and worse outcome for pedestrians and cyclists (and those in smaller cars), especially in regards to children

Those SUVs are kid crushers, they shouldn’ be on our roads

I took a picture of this tram this morning.

This is a series of trams "type Edison" produced in Italy in the period 1927-1930

They are in active use on a number of lines in Milan, and while beautiful, they are slow, hardly accessible and noisy... But still.

So cars jump over the garden?

Becky Guy, who lives on Whittlesey Road on the B1040 near Thorney, Peterborough, said over the past five years about 10 cars have crashed into her garden or her neighbour's.

I found the aeticle in a post on the fediverse, and I can't find it anymore.

The reaserchers asked a simple mathematical question to an LLM ( like 7+4) and then could see how internally it worked by finding similar paths, but nothing like performing mathematical reasoning, even if the final answer was correct.

Then they asked the LLM to explain how it found the result, what was it's internal reasoning. The answer was detailed step by step mathematical logic, like a human explaining how to perform an addition.

This showed 2 things:

  • LLM don't "know" how they work

  • the second answer was a rephrasing of original text used for training that explain how math works, so LLM just used that as an explanation

I think it was a very interesting an meaningful analysis

Can anyone help me find this?

EDIT: thanks to @theunknownmuncher @lemmy.world https://www.anthropic.com/research/tracing-thoughts-language-model its this one

EDIT2: I'm aware LLM dont "know" anything and don't reason, and it's exactly why I wanted to find the article. Some more details here: https://feddit.it/post/18191686/13815095

An EXTREMELY Simple Guide to Mastodon (www.staygrounded.online)
submitted 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) by lgsp@feddit.it to c/fediverse@lemmy.world

I think this is the way we should communicate, when presented with the question on how to get on Mastodon:

Copy paste from the link:

How do I use Mastodon?

  • Download the Mastodon app from the Apple app store or Play store.

  • Create an account (just like Twitter or any other social media)

  • Follow people, and get posting.

Why do tech journalists say it’s too confusing to catch on?

I have no fucking idea.

EDIT for clarification, don't take this too seriously:

This “guide” is a bit of a joke made out of frustration. If you actually want to know more, including why I feel it has potential to free us from the dystopian hellscape that is modern social media, here is the “real” guide to Mastodon. It still uses simple language (and has lots of pictures!):

Grazie a questo toot ho scoperto che è possibile aggiungere stili custom a OsmAnd, e alcuni qualcuno ha fatto lo sforzo di scriverne alcuni per particolari casi, come il ciclismo

Sembra fatto bene:

OsmAnd è un’app di mappatura offline open source per Android. Molto personalizzabile e con modalità avanzate per modificare i percorsi gpx, analizzarli, filtrare i POI etc.

Thank to this toot i discovered that you can add custmo maaping styles to OsmAnd, and some smart guys made the effort to write some for particular cases.

It looks nice:

OsmAnd is an open source offline mapping app for Android. It allows for a lot of customization, and has advanced modes to edit gpx paths, analyze them, filter POIs etx.

She mentioned in her toot that she tries to keep the dependencies so that the app works well with waydroid.

Anyway it's a great app, I use it almost daily. Strongly suggested!

Few topics in cycling inspire as much controversy as helmets. Some people insist they’re essential, calling non-wearers reckless and invoking harsh and violent imagery: “enjoy your traumatic brain injury”. “You’ll regret it when you’re in a hospital with a feeding tube”. You hear suggestions of denying access to public healthcare. On the opposite end, helmet skeptics argue that they’re a distraction. I’ve actually heard people call them “magic hats” that “don’t offer significant protection (if any at all)”. Helmets dehumanize cyclists and send the wrong message. They’re dorky and uncool, rather than fashionable and European. > > So what’s the truth about helmets? > > > Keep Urbanity rolling: > > Join our Patreon for early releases, credit at the end of each video, and bonus content: https://www.patreon.com/ohtheurbanity > Contact form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NeALCmO6ELwJAGPyV46BVbl5JXzjlWl6emH3ZRNiCiw/edit > Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN5CBM1NkqDYAHgS-AbgGHA?sub_confirmation=1 > Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ohurbanity > BlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/ohtheurbanity.bsky.social > > For professional inquiries, please fill out the following contact form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NeALCmO6ELwJAGPyV46BVbl5JXzjlWl6emH3ZRNiCiw/edit > > References: > >
