What an insane announcement. And CATL unlike BYD in some cases usually does not overmarket their innovations.

Sodium ion battery instead of lead acid starter for commerical vehicles. Lead acid batteries are currently a huge chunk of the global battery market, if CATL cracks that one as well... oh boy.

175wh per kg sodium battery for passenger cars is not too far behind LFP density, so not bad at all. Another improvement for sodium ion cells.

And then the dual battery, that is an interesting one. I read in another article that they exceeded 1000 wh per liter, that is a statement. CATL have said before that they want to go into the aircraft business and partnered with COMAC. Will be interesting how this all develops, and if cars will use it. I can definitely see it in chinese luxury cars.

What you didn't mention but is the main part of the German article: In vehicles of the same age, combustion cars are more than twice as likely to break down as Evs.

In Deutschland war das bisher so weit ich weiß nur schwierig möglich, weil die StvO da sehr viel vorschreibt, sodass Städte/Kommunen gar nicht viel Spielraum haben. Und die StVO muss eben auf Bundesebene geändert werden. Und für Änderungen auf Bundesebene braucht es einen Konsens zwischen vielen Parteien sowohl im bundestag als auch Bunderat. Die (Bundeds-) CDU sagt dann nein, und das wars.

Man müsste dafür mal innerhalb der CDU kämpfen, sonst wird es schwierig. Alternativ müssten SPD, Linke und Grüne so stark und überzeugt davon sein, dass sie es durch beide Instanzen bringen können. Das sehe ich aktuell und auch in Zukunft nicht.
