I’m sure the Thai, Myanmar, and Sri Lankan things are still going on but bad people of a religion doesn’t equal said religion. Unless you’re an atheist in the west than that equals all of said religion.

Yes it is surprising but people are of their circumstances

What I personally enjoying is more mental so I’ll be okay unless I lose my mind

Could you explain further

[–] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 3 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

That’s kind of you to say but there are certainly plenty of problematic Buddhist groups, like any social group.

What about you?

You could live until 100 if you take care. You can still eat what you want in moderation.

Buddhist, I was more Christian. Growing up in a fundamentalist church and becoming more intellectual drove me to ask big question that Christianity didn’t answer for me. Causes and conditions allowed me to encounter Buddhism when I was living in Japan and it’s grown in me ever since. I really liked how Zen meditation made me feel. Very different from being told to pray but there was nothing and also no unstructured. Buddhism has clear practices and results. I know it has “supernatural” elements but it’s all mostly logical to me and I like that

I didn’t follow but thanks for being kind and explaining

If I'm asleep and someone is banging around with pots and pans cooking that is annoying, especially if there are no doors.

If all you got from my long comment was overly dramatic about a potential critique of you then I'm thinking we know the issue.

I'm sorry! Hang in there :) Have a good night as well.

I understand America's history of poor treatment of minorities but what has caused many liberal white people to casually talk as if they aren't white.

Some examples:

  • A friend has an eastern European neighbor move in. He says he's glad they are that instead of American white.
  • Feeling they are individually responsible for what their ancestors and/or rich and politically affluent white people did in the past.
  • Acting as if white people anything is bad.
  • Making jokes at their own expense but won't dare say the same thing to another ethnicity.

I don't mean this post as a worm-brained right wing or political discussion, but just seeking to understand this odd internalized behavior I've seen recently.

Rule 3: Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There’s a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it’s vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a “controversial” message for it to be allowed.

I really don't mean this to be about politics but about how people act!

Edit Thanks for the report @lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone I tried not to frame this in a controversial manner.

It's starting to feel just like any old social media/forum but with less users...

Obviously if public the material would be important. But private, only over ssh or vpn? Free internet, power, and backup!

Inspired by this comment to try to learn what I'm missing.

  • Cloudflare proxy
  • Reverse Proxy
  • Fail2ban
  • Docker containers on their own networks

Another concern I have is does it need to be on a separate machine on a vlan from the rest of the network or is that too much?

I was using protonmail for my custom domain for work and private emails but now I think mailbox has better options, providing way more custom domain emails. Wondering what the best use case is? Thinking of using my own domains instead of proton. I have this one and my name.

Using name@name.com or bills@name.com is fun and easy but is it private? These companies already know my name so is using my work website domain okay?

Current emails

Are they self posting? Are they bots?

First term a lot of people considered leaving but frankly it didn't feel like this.

Mods: I am unsure if this question goes against rule 2 or not. I mean to ask this as the general situation but of course it is political. The wording of the rule makes it unclear if politics are allowed or not...

Not offensive: at this point, we do not have the bandwidth to moderate overtly political discussions. Assume best intent and be excellent to each other.

I see Ghost has a paid option but I am unaware of such an option for Mediawiki.
