Some cool covers in that album too.

As prompted by my friend @Myr@lemmy.world's most recent post here: may I present to you Margarita Witch Cult! One of my favourite stoner albums, has a great mix of everything in there. More traditional stoner doom, faster thrashier songs, slower hard-hitting songs. Addictive vocals and great guitar tones. Their debut is brilliant - I'm even going to brag about owning a vinyl copy ;) . I might post another time, their more recent release, but I must say it didn't quite meet my expectations. Which is unfortunate, as I had (and still do) have high hopes for this upcoming band.

Another comment, because, holy shit! I've been listening to this on repeat today. The entire album is such a vibe.

Great stuff, straight into my doom playlist! I need to find more like this.

I want to cycle down it.

Some more death thrash from the Florida band Solstice. This time from their second album: Pray. The guitar work on this particular album remind me a little of Cannibal Corpse.

This level of absence is unforgiven! In all seriousness though, I need to try my best to stay on top of things, apologies.

I'll mark my return with some excellent head-banging material.

Another song from my favourite Slayer album! What's your favourite album of theirs?

Before I get onto the track itself, I'd like to preface this by saying that today I have been on a bit of an Annihilator spree. Listened to a total of 5 full-lengths and 1 EP. Long story short I was unimpressed with anything they released after their first two albums, and was holding out for anything close to a sign of returning to their former glory. I put it down to many bad judgement calls of Jeff Waters (Annihilator might as well be a one man band), despite his excellent musicianship. I finally decided to wade my way through their large discography, most of which has led to disappointment, unfortunately. I almost find it hard to believe in a way, as, Jeff is such a brilliant guitarist, a decent vocalist, and has proven his ludicrous amount of skill and songwriting talent on many occasions. I read someone describing Annihilator as a "proof of concept", and I mostly have to agree with that statement.

However, after a few hours of eye-rolls and head shaking of disapproval, my eyes finally lit up (OK, perhaps not as much as the ones in the album cover xD). This is the album I have been looking for all along. While it is no Never, Neverland or Alice In Hell, it feels like the logical third album I would have expected from the group; the self-titled release features a partial return to their early formula, and holds more resemblance to their original ideas than anything released since. Lets hope the trend continues. I will probably find out in the next few days xD.

New single by old-school bay area thrashers Forbidden! I have to say this is a big improvement over their latest effort Omega Wave (2010). Hopefully this means we may hear a new full release in the next couple years! That's all I'm going to say... take a listen for yourself, and let me know what you think!

Venom fans where you at?

This album is a masterpiece! You know I don't often use that word sparingly. I'm so glad to have found this. You MUST check out the rest of this album, or at the very least, The Best of Enemies. It is top-tier thrash with top-tier riffs, top-tier lyrics and insane, rhythmic snarling to accompany it. The sole letdown would have to be the production. The guitars, whilst sounding great themselves, get easily buried in the mix and at times you may struggle to hear the detail in the guitars. They are far too muddy for the rest of the mix. But don't let that small nitpick spoil it! Enjoy! 🤘

Apologies for the off-topic post... just letting you all know I have taken over (and renovated ;D) the heavy metal community. Hope it proves useful for all your heavy metal and nwobhm needs! It would be much appreciated if you could check out this community!

I hope to make regular posts there, and see if it gains any traction. Likely won't be as frequent as posts here, though I will try my absolute best (I only have so much free time ;D, plus my HM knowledge isn't quite as extensive as my thrash xD). I am also interested to hear your recommendations and maybe find a few hidden gems!

Cheers! 🤘

EDIT: !heavymetal@lemmy.world - I'm a dopey fucker xD.

It's about time we had a community dedicated to heavy metal. Thought I'd kick things of with some classic Tank!
