yeah, it's gotten to the point where actual headlines sometimes sound more insane than Onion articles, sadly we get to live in interesting times

bethesda taught us a very important lesson a while ago - if your game isn't good, then the modders won't bother. Skyrim despite its flaws is a good game, and has mods to show for it, Starfield despite its budget is pretty bad, and after the initial hype most ambitious mod projects were cancelled.

because of that i don't think there's any neferious plot behind the game makers celebrating their modding community, and the modding community certainly isn't getting forced to work without pay - they're passionate about the game and want to make something of their own within it, and honestly that builds a good portfolio for future use too

the receptors for psychedelics are the same as normal happiness receptors, just constantly stimulated by the drugs binding to them (similar to SSRI). prayer and meditation can have partially similar effect, fractals, feelings happiness, and even ego death yes, but there is more to psychedelics than those, they can completely alter your perception of reality and thoughts

nah i'm pretty sure evolution taught us to fear death, no species looks like it feels neutral about dying

i mean he was(/is?) selling swastika tshirts, parody is dead

in my personal edgy opinion, religions are a cope & a great tool of control.

They give you hope against the biggest fear ingrained in us - death, and even worse - death being equal for everyone, good person, bad person, both will die. It's a nice thought to believe that there is fairness to it all, that good actions should be done despite bad actions being easier. It's a nice thought to believe there is something else after you die, and none of your good (or bad) deeds go unnoticed, that you, a good person, will live in paradise, and your enemies will finally suffer the consequences of what they've done.

it also helps bring people together, creates a unified peoppe and a culture of those who believe in the same thing & allows a potential leader to have an easier time rallying everyone towards the same goal.

religion is a wonderful tool for both coping with existential dread, and unifying people. but as a tool it has the capacity for explaining away both good and bad things quite equally (helping poor, crusades, personal growth, bigotry).

what relgion is based on is close to irrelevant, it just has to be something, preferably a good overall story with many smaller stories that teach the common folk how to be a good [insert religious identity]. Try reading ancient Egyptian mythology, i suspect most of that shit was written on heavy doses of psychedelics, and despite how completely insane all of it is - it unified people and was an integral part of the biggest empire of the ancient times.

honestly i don't want to "debunk" people's religions, if it's something that keeps them going then why take it away, i personally tried but failed multiple times at believing in any god, but i can't lie the existential dread of "one day i will die, no matter how much i managed to achieve, no matter how good of a person i was, i will die the same as every murderer or war criminal, and there will be no justice in that, and then, one day my name will be spoken for the last time, and i will be forgotten" is a heavy thought to bear, no wonder that as a species we've always tried to find some reason, any reason, for that not being the case

mindfulness (when i remember about it) helps me a lot so i don't doubt the grander idea where it came from would help too :) thanks for letting me know about it, i'll definitely check it out!

i've started trying to one up my anxiety & intrusive thoughts by adding "and then a meteor hits and we all die" to those thoughts and honestly it's making me feel better lol

"what if a car suddenly appears and crashes into you out of nowehere in this parking lot" is only slightly more likely to happen than "and then the meteor hits and we all die" and it helps me see anxiety for what it is - anxiety, not rational thoughts that warn me of dangers, but a hypersensitive gremlin in my brain dreaming up the worst case scenarios for every life situation there is

r/piracy has a megathread with an easy tutorial on how to make that work, it's honestly so easy it made me feel dumb for ever paying for adobe. you just have to run like one app, and then make your firewall block all outgoing connections for each of the .exes, the only app that doesn't work despite that is lightroom BUT lightroom classic is fully functional and the same if not better, so no loss there

i'm pretty sure it's not, since if you get through their bullshit AI assistant and talk to a human they can just undo it without a fuss if it hasn't been too long since you've been charged

i'm guessing they're counting on people just giving up whilst defending themselves with "Your Honour people can technically do that, see they just need to contact support :)" all whilst desperately trying to hide that option so you give up and let them have your money

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

nonono, go back there is a way. you have to battle through their FAQ, and then their AI assistant, when you finally arrive at the point of talking to a human being then they might be able to just undo that for you, i don't know if there's a deadline for giving back money after you've been charged, but if it was a day or two ago i'm sure it's not too late

it worked for me with adobe and netflix, they barely even asked why aside from what is required of them "why r u leaving i need it for a survey" type of thing. it's a sleazy move to hide that you can get your money back, they try to squeeze just a little bit more out of you, but you if embrace your inner Karen there's a chance!
