I once got a pop up ad on an old tablet where the person in the image looked a lot like me. It was so bizarre. I thought it was some AI generated ad. This was like 3 years ago though and I didn't have Facebook anymore.

I don't have Facebook or anything Meta.

But what can or will happen to people who let Meta train its AI with their data, selfies, locations, and behavior patterns etc? Thanks in advance

I have an extra laptop with 8gb or ram that I want to turn into my Nextcloud server.

The steps that I think I need to take:

  1. Learn how to set up a server on a laptop.
  2. Learn how to install Nextcloud software on the server.

But I'm confused because I came across a video where someone set up Nexcloud right on their Windows laptop. Does that mean I can do that on my Ubuntu laptop?

I started out with Linux Mint which I had trouble with when I kept getting notified that I had unnecessary files in my Boot folder. I deleted the wrong files and broke my first installation. Tried ZorinOS and loved it. I decided to try Ubuntu to see what all the hype was about and didn't like how much Snaps were pushed on me. Went back to ZorinOS and I like everything as is out of the box. I don't care much for the Windows App Support. VirtualBox is a life saver.

Before you comment, please know that I'm not complaining. Someone asked this in Mastodon and it's a good question because if you don't block Threads dot net, then you can look people up and follow them and vice versa.

In my home feed I see posts from other Mastodon servers but not from Threads. Why is that? Thanks in advance

Edit There are no Threads dot net posts in my Global feed either. And I haven't blocked Threads either.

I'm going into a Medical Lab Tech program. I know 1 lab tech but he went to school in the 80's. So I'm not sure what software they use now.

I'd like to never boot into Windows again. I have VirtualBox installed where I can install Windows 11 if I need to but is there anything that it(Windows on a VM) wouldn't be able to do like accessing hardware devices? Thanks in advance

I use it for everyday things like schoolwork and gmail and it works great so far. I still have Librewolf on the side but it seems like it's for more privacy and that you're not supposed to change it too much for example adding more extensions or it defeats the purpose of it.

I'm aware that it used to be owned by an ad company System1. But I found this post by the founder where he said that it's now an independent project.

I'm using ZorinOS and I really like how simple it is and I want to support the project. If I upgrade to the Pro version then I get more desktop themes/options.

But I understand what you mean. I could just install for example Debian with KDE desktop and have more customizing options for free.

My primary OS is Windows (I use it for work) and I have Linux as my second OS. If I upgrade my linux distro to the paid version so I can have more features, will Windows be okay? Thanks I'm a newb
