This is sad to hear but without reading the article I'm good ng to guess this has to do with shutting down equipment due to power constraints. It has a limited amount of fuel that can't be refilled because it's literally the furthest man made device ever. It sucks but the program will have to end at some point, its been 50 years which is amazing they've been able to keep in touch with it

I did already do that but will never know for sure if they actually did delete it despite what any law may say

I do wish 18 year old me thought this through a bit more before sending in my sample

Maybe the joke was he recognized the word but wanted to kill the man (as if the stick figure was a billionaire)
