If the European Commission and the EU Member States have their way, the so-called Digital Omnibus will result in a fundamental change to EU privacy laws. But what about the European Parliament? To find out more, noyb has analysed more than 1,000 amendments that Members of Parliament (MEPs) have tabled for the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive to shed a light on their actions. This shows that many MEPs are in favour of stripping people of their privacy rights – while others still push back.

Go to gdpr-omnibus.eu to see who tries to defend your privacy and who wants to undermine currently existing protections. Look up your MEP by country and political group.

The pesticide industry and big farming lobby have succeeded in getting a string of their demands into the European Commission’s Food & Feed Omnibus and amendments tabled by European Parliament co-rapporteurs, a new investigation by Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) reveals. Lobby demands from Bayer, BASF, CropLife Europe and Copa-Cogeca on unlimited pesticide approvals, longer grace periods and wider derogations made their way into the Omnibus proposals. Taken together, the changes would weaken key EU pesticide safeguards and keep harmful pesticides in use for longer, rather than accelerating the shift to safer alternatives.

Study.

Fewer kids are being vaccinated in most European Union (EU) countries in recent years, according to Italian researchers, who warn this is reversing substantial progress made since 1980. The team looked at vaccination data on seven childhood vaccines (diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b, measles, pneumococcus, polio and rubella) across all 27 EU countries between 1980 and 2024. Over the full period, vaccination rates rose in most countries for most vaccines, but 16 countries have seen recent declines in vaccination rates for four or more vaccines. Most of the recent declines began between 2019 and 2022, they say, during COVID-19. The pandemic may have contributed to the disruption of routine vaccination services, the authors add, although they caution that their study just looked at changing rates, not causes.
