A former Navy pilot, first elected to Congress in 2018, will be New Jersey's next governor.

Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill defeated former Republican Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, according to a race call by The Associated Press, capping a closely-watched gubernatorial election that some polls predicted would be a coin flip.

He said Maria mocked Charlie Kirk's murder by resharing something critical of Kirk on TikTok. “Whenever Maria sees the pizza guy come, better think of Charlie Kirk for making fun of his f--king death,” he says, according to the video. “Stupid-ass clown. Just remember that.” The pizza context was that on the livestream, he said he would order pizza to Maria's home and make her pay for it.

I’ve been enjoying this album by Jeremy Zucker. I love to see musicians embracing the state.

We're having an event for Software Freedom Day. It is a world-wide event, and we are having one right here at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

We'll have talks about what free software is, and why it's important for everyone. What kind of software is available for your existing computer, and how you can use Free Software to use your computer past the date that the manufacturer wants to keep updating it. There will be a talk on self hosting, so that you can run services that reduce or replace your reliance on outside big tech companies, and keep better control of your data. Talks about Wikipedia and Open Source are proposed. There will also be a talk on Social Networking with free software called "Mastodon and the Fediverse" that will show how you can network with people without giving your data to big tech, and without the algorithms that don't work in your best interest.

Here a link for more information:

https://softwarefreedom.neocities.org/

We'll be happy to discuss any details.

Everyone knows one of the best things NJ has to offer is homemade bagels. I was curious what everyone's best bagel spot is. A few years ago, I saw this asked on the other site, and I saw some great suggestions.

I bring it up because today I actually got to try the one that was mentioned the most, and im happy to say it did not disappoint. The name is Bagel Train, and technically, it's in NY but only about 30 seconds over the border. This one may have taken 1st place for me. Before this, my favorite was Hot Bagels in Fairlawn. Has anyone else got some suggestions for the best of the best?

If you’re on the US East Coast, you should head on over to Wall, NJ and check out the Vintage Computer Festival East. After all, [Brian Kernighan] is going to be there. Yes, that [Brian Kernighan].

Events are actually well underway, and you’ve already missed the first few TRS-80 Color Computer programming workshops, but rest assured that they’re going on all weekend. If you’re from the other side of the retrocomputing fence, namely the C64 side, you’ve also got a lot to look forward to, because the theme this year is “The Sounds of Retro” which means that your favorite chiptune chips will be getting a workout.

[Tom Nardi] went to VCF East last year, so if you’re on the fence, just have a look at his writeup and you’ll probably hop in your car, or like us, wish you could. If when you do end up going, let us know how it was in the comments!
