This doesn't seem very safe. I hope they're protesting for something good this time, and not against environmental protections like last time.

Against environmental protection, wtf? Who do you think we are? No, we were protesting against yet another tax on gas that would have weighted mostly on the poors, again. This tax was presented as an environmental tax for people to drink the kool-aid, but when you're poor enough and every cent counts, you can't take it anymore. That tax was the straw that broke the people's back, especially when knowing how few taxes our top 10% pay, which is just obscene. We have a thousand millionnaires who don't even pay taxes at all.

So, it started in protest against that tax, then Macron spat on our face, then it became about much more than just that tax, it became an uproar against the fucked-up, dystopian society our dear Epstein class is leading us into.

It was repressed with great violence and injustice, until we just got burnt out by a president who's paving the way for our local nazies with the complicity of the bourgeoisie and their collaborationist medias, who could not even respect the result of the 2024 parliamentary election (the equivalent of the american congress) that should have imposed a united leftist prime minister, etc... That's only a glimmer of how Macron and his goons have starved, mutilated and despised the french people and destroyed the country for almost ten years.

Now, it's the highschoolers and students that Macron is unleashing his pigs on, and when power spits in our face and start mutilating our children, then we come for its fucking head.

"And that, kids, is how I voted the far right fascists into power at the next election."

    It's a beautiful, heartwarming tale.

The irony: a contributing factor to both E. Macron elections was his stated posture as a shield against far-right. (M. Le Pen was his second round opponent in both elections.)

Indeed. Unfortunately if the keyboard revolutionaries of Lemmy think that the lumpenproletariat looting Fnac is going to bring about the Glorious Revolution and not instead usher Le Pen into power, they are as deluded as they are biddable, lapdogs of Putin that they are.

    Please tone your condescendence down.

Those responsibles for MLP (and her kind) rise to power are not their opponents. The main responsible are themselves, their allies, and their goons/henchβ€’woβ€’men.

The narrative about the protesters being responsible ignore the decades-long events chronology, the contribution of these big companies to our suffering, the proganda aganist the protesters even when unsupported by facts, etc. It is a blame shifting narrative.

Trust me, that was toned down. My condescension for Internet blowhards tippety-tappeting out their "up the revolution" bullshit from behind their Russian-funded keyboards is practically infinite.

when power spits in our face and start mutilating our children, then we come for its fucking head

Classic Lemmy fuckwittery. At best an imbecile, at worst an agent of fascism - both deserve contempt.

Rising and unaffordable cost of living, education and underfunding thereof, amongst other things.

From what I heard, it’s multiple things coalescing into a singular movement at this point

Huh? I was being funny with the "safe" comment. Also, they weren't protesting tax breaks for billionaires, we're they? They were protesting environmental legislation.

I do sympathize with this moment, however.

  • "and only by putting the effort on the less wealthy". Or maybe you just didn't took the effort to understand the causes (can't blame you, foreign politics are complicated to get into) because the GJ indeed started from fuel increase but the main factor was a lack of fiscal equality, and the increase of the cost of living as a whole, while the most wealthy were shielded.
